We are trying to publish our website from Dreamweaver on to inmotionhosting but it continues to bring up a FTP error that says "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. The remote host cannot be found."

What should we do? it wont let us click on "put"

First step of the tutorial Click "Put" gives me the same error message in the question above. What can be done?

Hello hchcpagosa, and bixax54,
<a name="dreamweaver-solution"></a>
Sorry to hear you're both having issues with the DreamWeaver FTP error:

<em>"An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. The remote host cannot be found."</em>

From the research online that I've done, and the interactions with other customers with this FTP error, and other common FTP errors, I'm guessing that more than likely you have one of the following problems preventing you from publishing your DreamWeaver website to the server successfully:

<ul><li>The FTP host needs to be properly set to your domain name, or you can <a href="" target="_blank">find your server name in cPanel</a> to use.</li>
<li>The DreamWeaver FTP home or root directory needs to be set to <strong>public_html</strong> or <strong>public_html/addondomain.tld</strong> if publishing to an <a href="" target="_blank">addon domain</a>.</li>
<li>Ensure your <a href="" target="_blank">DreamWeaver server settings</a> are set properly for publishing, for instance that <strong>Passive FTP</strong> is selected for use.</li>
<li>Ensure that you can in fact connect to the server by <a href="" target="_blank">running a ping and traceroute test</a>.</li>
<li>If all that fails you and you're still having problems, you might want to check out the <a href="" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Adobe troubleshoot DreamWeaver CS4 and earlier FTP problems</a> documentation, or the <a href="" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Adobe troubleshoot DreamWeaver CS5 FTP issues</a> guide.</li></ul>
Hopefully one of these resources will solve your DreamWeaver FTP error problems that you're encountering. If you continue to have any issues that these above solutions don't resolve for you, please let us know!

I had the same problem. An InMotion tech told me that sometimes the password did not "set" (his words) and to keep trying. I did. For two days. Finally it worked and has worked since. I didn't do anything different. I was using the correct user name and password from the start. One of those unexplained kinks somewhere, but I don't think it was in Dreamweaver because I have used it since it was Macromedia and Dreamweaver FTP access always worked until now. But eventually it seems the password will "take."
