One of the block features that have been added as of version 6.0 is the ability to lock a block so that its position and\/or its removal can be prevented.\u00a0 This article will demonstrate how to find and use the new block option.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tutorial uses WordPress 6.0 RC2 and the Twenty Twenty-two theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locking a Block<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main reason you will lock a block is to prevent it from being moved from a particular location or from having it deleted.\u00a0 This is especially helpful if you\u2019re working with multiple content creators or editors that can make changes to a page or post.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, you may want to enforce the placement of a graphic at the beginning of a post.\u00a0 Locking the block there will keep it from being moved and replaced.\u00a0 You can see the block locked in the list view in the screenshot below.\u00a0 The lock icon indicates that the block is locked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steps to lock a block:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Log in to the WordPress Administrator.\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. In order to change the properties for a block, you need to be in an editor.\u00a0 The visual editor can be accessed in the site editor, or with the page\/post editor.\u00a0 Open the editor of your choice.\u00a0 This tutorial will show a post being edited.

  3. Select a block that you want to lock or add it page or post that you\u2019re working on. Here you can see the Image block being added. \u00a0 Click on the 3-dot menu<\/strong> to open the block options menu.

  4. When the menu appears scroll down the list then click on Lock<\/strong>. You will see two lock options that you can select.\u00a0

  5. Click on the option you want to use, or click on Lock all<\/strong>.\u00a0 Then, click on Apply<\/strong>.

  6. When you\u2019re done with your edits, make sure to either click on Save Draft<\/strong>, Publish<\/strong>, or Update.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
