Or you can follow the steps below to check your domain\u2019s DNS records directly from your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list article_list\">\n<li>Open a command prompt or terminal window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once a command prompt window is up, you\u2019ll want to type in the following command and hit <em>Enter<\/em><br> <pre>nslookup<\/pre> <br>You should now be at the <em>nslookup<\/em> prompt indicated by a <code>&gt;<\/code> <br>Now you\u2019ll want to specify that you are just looking to query the <em>(NS)<\/em> name server records of the domain by typing in the following: <br><pre>set q=NS<\/pre> <br>Then hit <strong>Enter<\/strong> to be dropped to the next line and type in your domain name:<br><pre>inmotionhosting.com<\/pre> <br><br>For this example we used <em>InMotionHosting.com<\/em> and we get back our public name servers: <br><pre>ns1.inmotionhosting.com internet address = 74.124.210.2<br>ns2.inmotionhosting.com internet address = 70.39.150.2<\/pre><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"activate\">Activating Custom Nameservers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your server has been set up with custom name servers, but your domains are still pointed to our public name servers you\u2019ll want to update these so that they are using your custom name servers instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should have already at this point been given custom name server entries by our system administration team, or you specifically requested for them to be set up. For this example, we\u2019ll be using the fake domain name <em>MyCustomNameServer.com<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>ns1.MyCustomNameServer.com 123.123.123.123<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>ns2.MyCustomNameServer.com 123.123.123.123<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list article_list\">\n<li>Login to your domain Registrar where you registered the <em>MyCustomNameServer.com<\/em> domain name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most Registrars will have a section similar to <strong>Maintain name servers under this domain<\/strong>, or it\u2019s sometime referred to as <strong>glue<\/strong>, or <strong>host<\/strong> records as well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Typically you\u2019ll just need to enter in the part before your domain name <em>ns1<\/em> for instance, and then the IP address you were given for the custom name server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat the same step again for the <em>ns2<\/em> as well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now update all of your domains to point to your custom name servers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activate Your New Nameservers in AMP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your domain is registered through us, you can activate (also known as <em>glue<\/em>) your <em>Custom Nameservers<\/em> in AMP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/amp\/how-to-log-into-amp\/\">Login to AMP<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move your mouse over the <strong>DOMAINS<\/strong> menu and click the <strong>MANAGE DOMAINS<\/strong> link.<br><a href=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/revamp_manage-domain.png\"><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the domain name you want to edit from the list.<br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/revamp_select-domain.png\" alt=\"Select the domain name to edit\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next screen click <strong>Create custom nameservers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <em>Add Name Server<\/em> section enter your custom nameservers, and your <a href=\"\/support\/website\/how-to-find-your-shared-ip-address-of-your-server-in-cpanel\/\">Shared IP<\/a> for both nameservers. Click the <strong>Submit<\/strong> button to save your changes, you will then see your new nameservers listed.<br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/revamp_glu-nameservers.png\" alt=\"Glue the records\"><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>After making DNS changes like this, it can take a full 24-48 hours for the settings to fully <a href=\"\/support\/domain-names\/dns-nameserver-changes\/complete-guide-to-dns-records\/\">propagate<\/a>. Once they have been updated, you should be able to query your domain\u2019s name server records again, and they should come back with the custom name server settings as the active name server addresses for that domain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do I Find My Custom Nameserver IPs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/whm\/log-into-whm\/\">Log into WHM<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Home<\/strong> &gt;<strong><em> DNS Functions <\/em><\/strong>&gt; <strong>Edit DNS zone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select your main domain from the list and click <strong>Edit<\/strong>. You will then see your ns1 and ns2 subdomain entries for your custom nameservers.
