IMAP folders may need to be manually assigned to a Mac Mail account in order to synchronize properly. The assigning of these folders is also known as Subscribing to IMAP folders<\/strong>. The following article explains how to find and configure this setting within the Mac Mail client.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: This article applies to Apple Mail used in OSX Mavericks (2013). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Add Folders to the Subscription List in Mac Mail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  1. Open your Mac Mail client.<\/li>
  2. In the top left corner, click on MAIL <\/strong>in the menu bar, then select Preferences<\/strong>.<\/li>
  3. Click on the Account Information

  4. Make sure that the first item is checked off. It should read: Enable this account<\/strong>.<\/li>
  5. Next, click on the Advanced<\/strong> tab and click on the checkbox that reads Include when automatically checking for new messages<\/strong>.<\/li>
  6. Close the Accounts<\/strong> window, then under the MAILBOXES <\/strong>column on the left-hand side control-click (or right-click) on the INBOX<\/strong> icon.

  7. Click on GET ACCOUNT INFO<\/strong>. You will see an ACCOUNT INFO <\/strong>window pop up like the one in the screenshot on right. Click on SUBSCRIPTION LIST<\/strong>. You will see the list of folders that are subscribed or not subscribed for synchronization with your IMAP account. You can select the folder and SUBSCRIBE<\/strong> or UNSUBSCRIBE<\/strong> with the buttons at the bottom left of the screen.<\/li>
  8. Close the ACCOUNT INFO<\/strong> window, then click on MAILBOX<\/strong> in the menu bar at the top of the screen.<\/li>
  9. Click on Take All Accounts Offline<\/strong>. Wait for it to go offline, then click on Take All Accounts Online<\/strong> to complete the changes.

    Subscribing to IMAP Folders using Mac Mail<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In order to use IMAP folders for the Mac email client, you will need to set the IMAP Path Prefix<\/strong> and select the IMAP folders<\/strong> that Apple Mail will use. The instructions for these steps are found below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How to Enter the IMAP Path Prefix<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    1. Choose Preferences<\/strong> in the Mail menu.<\/li>
    2. Click on Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>
    3. Click on the Advanced tab.<\/strong><\/li>
    4. Type in INBOX<\/strong> in the \u201cIMAP Path Prefix\u201d field.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Selecting the IMAP folders for Sent, Drafts, Junk, and Trash<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      1. Select and then click on the IMAP folder<\/strong> you would like to use: Sent<\/strong>, Drafts<\/strong>, Junk<\/strong>, or Trash<\/strong>.<\/li>
      2. Click on the Mailbox<\/strong> menu.<\/li>
      3. Choose the corresponding mailbox that you would \u201cUse This Mailbox For\u201d.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
