In this article we\u2019ll discuss how you can copy all incoming and outgoing mail that your VPS or dedicated server handles to a designated email address for review.<\/p>\n

This can come in handy if you need to keep email data archived for a set period of time in accordance to certain regulations your industry might have to follow. Or you simply want to see the messages of your users to ensure they are not spamming from your server or sending out information they shouldn\u2019t be.<\/p>\n

This will require that you have root access<\/a> to your server in order to follow these steps. If you do not have root access, and would like this done for you please contact our support department<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Login to your server via SSH<\/a> as the root user.<\/li>\n
  2. Backup your Exim system filter file with the following command: cp -frp \/etc\/cpanel_exim_system_filter{,-BAK}<\/code><\/li>\n
  3. Edit the \/etc\/cpanel_exim_system_filter<\/strong> file with the vim<\/strong> editor: vim \/etc\/cpanel_exim_system_filter<\/code><\/li>\n
  4. The top 28 or so lines of this file are all commented out with a #<\/strong>symbol in front of each line. The section you\u2019ll want to add your mail copying rule to is under this section of that:

    \nBelow that last line, insert the following replacing user@example.com<\/strong> with the email address you want mail copied to:\n

    unseen deliver user@example.com<\/code><\/p>\n

    In order to accomplish this, first hit i<\/strong> to enter into INSERT<\/strong> mode in vim<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Then type in your text, and hit esc<\/strong> to exit INSERT<\/strong> mode.<\/p>\n

    Now you can simply type in :wq<\/strong> to enter COMMAND<\/strong> mode, and then w<\/strong>rite the file and q<\/strong>uit.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Now let\u2019s say you had someone at your company send out some company secrets from your support@example.com<\/strong>address to one of your big competitors.<\/p>\n

    Now you can simply check the email for your user@example.com<\/strong> account that you setup the unseen deliver<\/strong> mail copy rule for, and see both the outgoing and incoming messages that happened.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You should now know how to copy all of your incoming and outgoing mail to a specified email address for either archiving or reviewing.<\/p>\n
