Email can be managed using many different email clients such as <a href=\"\/support\/email\/creating-an-email-account-in-thunderbird\/\">Thunderbird<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/email\/\">Outlook<\/a>, <a href=\"\/support\/email\/set-up-mac-mail\/\">Mac Mail<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/email\/\">and more<\/a>. You may receive an email message when first configuring your email client or when you check your email. Here are a few of the most common messages:<\/p>\n<h2>Authentication Errors<\/h2>\n<h3>Incorrect Password<\/h3>\n<p>When you set up the email account in cPanel for the first time you decide on the initial password for that specific email account. If you don&#8217;t remember the password, that&#8217;s okay too. As long as you can <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/cpanel\/how-to-log-into-cpanel\/\">access cPanel<\/a>, you can update or <a href=\"\/support\/\">change your email account&#8217;s password<\/a>. Please make sure you are using the email account password and not the cPanel password. If you need to change an email account&#8217;s password this can be done in the &#8220;Email Accounts&#8221; section of cPanel.<\/p>\n<h3>Invalid Username<\/h3>\n<p>Your username should be your full email address. If your domain is example.com and you have an email account for sales, the username would be sales@example.com. Do not use your cPanel username as this will cause an error.<\/p>\n<h2>Unsecure Connection (or SSL Error)<\/h2>\n<p>All of our clients on a shared hosting package have access to a shared SSL certificate. You can configure your email client to use that SSL certificate when checking your email. To use the SSL, you will need to change a few settings. You will need to use &#8220;secure&#8221; instead of mail.example.com. If you have the email client to use the SSL but are not using the corrent mail server such as &#8220;secure108.inmotionhosting.com&#8221; it will cause a warning &#8220;Unsecure Connection&#8221; error.<\/p>\n<h2>503 valid RCPT Command Must Precede Data<\/h2>\n<p>If you are getting this message, ensure you have selected &#8220;My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication&#8221; when you <a href=\"\/support\/email\/\">setup your email<\/a> client.<\/p>\n<h2>Other<\/h2>\n<p>If you are still getting an error message and you&#8217;re not sure about how to resolve the issue, please contact our technical support department.
