Currently, when you run the Mail application, it defaults to automatically setting the ports for you. So, you don\u2019t even see the settings. Follow the steps below to quickly and easily change these settings as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Manually Change the Ports <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In order to make changes to an Apple Mail account, you will need to be logged into your Apple computer as an Administrator-level user. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Launch Apple Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>
  2. In the menu at the top of the screen, click on Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>
  3. Click on Preferences<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. You will see a window pop up labeled Accounts<\/strong>. Select the mail account that you want to change.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      1. Click on the Server Setting<\/strong> tab.<\/li>
      2. You will see \u201cAutomatically manage connection settings\u201d<\/strong> in two places on the screen that appears. Uncheck both checkboxes for this option both the Incoming<\/strong> and Outgoing<\/strong> mail servers.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Click on Server Settings and remove checkmarks from checkboxes for Automatically manage connection settings<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
        1. Click on the Port<\/strong> for Incoming Mail Server<\/strong>. The setting secure setting for an account using IMAP is 993<\/strong>. For POP3, it is 995<\/strong>. The non-secure settings are 143<\/strong> for IMAP and 110<\/strong> for POP3. <\/li>
        2. Click on the Port<\/strong> of Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)<\/strong>. The secure port setting is 465<\/strong>. The non-secure port is 587<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          1. If you are using the secure settings then the checkbox for Use TLS\/SSL should be checked. Once you have all the ports correctly set, click on the Save<\/strong> button in the bottom right of the screen in order to save your changes. It will ask to confirm your changes<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            You now know how to manually change the ports for Apple Mail. Since these ports are often automatically handled, they are a regular cause of Mail connection issues.
