There are many ways to force a website to use HTTPS for a secure SSL connection including the .htaccess 301 redirect<\/a> and HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) preload list<\/a>. Below we cover how to force Matomo to use HTTPS with the configuration file and ForceSSL plugin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Config File<\/a> Install Plugin<\/a> Deactivate Redirect<\/a> <\/a><\/p>\n

Edit Configuration File<\/h2>\n

Editing the configuration file is the easiest option for those with access.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Edit your config\/config.ini.php<\/em> file<\/strong> using cPanel File Manager or FTP<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Under [General]<\/em>, change the number<\/strong> beside force_ssl =<\/span> from 0<\/strong> to 1<\/strong>.
    Matomo should redirect to HTTPS automatically next time you login Matomo.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Install ForceSSL Plugin<\/h2>\n

    For those unable to access the config file, you can install the ForceSSL plugin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Login Matomo<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Select the Administration icon<\/strong> beside All Websites<\/em>.<\/li>\n
    3. Select Marketplace<\/strong> under Platform<\/em>.

    4. On the right, search ForceSSL<\/strong> and press Enter<\/strong>.

      Deactivate ForceSSL<\/h2>\n

      You may need to disable the HTTPS redirect if your SSL expires. You can deactivate the plugin within the config file or dashboard.<\/p>\n

      1. Select Plugins<\/strong> under System<\/em>.

      2. Select Deactivate<\/strong> on the right of ForceSSL<\/strong>.

        You can uninstall it on the same page if preferred but its not necessary.<\/p><\/li>\n

        Note:<\/strong>If you can\u2019t log into Matomo, you\u2019ll need to edit your config.ini.php file<\/a> and under [Plugins]<\/em> remove the line Plugins[] = \u201cForceSSL\u201d<\/span> to deactivate the plugin. Then change the number beside force_ssl =<\/span> from 1<\/strong> to 0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/ol>\n
