In this article we\u2019ll go over the basic process of taking multiple cPanel accounts, and merging them into one account. You can only have multiple cPanel accounts on a VPS or dedicated server plan, so if you\u2019re looking to downgrade your account to a shared-hosting plan you would need to first consolidate your accounts down into one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our example below we have two cPanel accounts userna1<\/strong> with the domain PrimaryDomain.com<\/strong> and userna2<\/strong> with the domain AddonDomain.com<\/strong>. We\u2019ll be merging the AddonDomain.com<\/strong> domain into the userna1<\/strong> account so that both domains can be accessed from the same cPanel account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our AddonDomain.com<\/strong> domain is a WordPress site so we\u2019ll need to be sure we also grab the MySQL database so we can set it up under the userna1<\/strong> account.<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> merging cPanels containing WordPress sites can have unusual effects on WordPress site configuration. This is especially true of WordPress security plugins. Consider temporarily deactivating your plugins<\/a> while merging cPanels. After the merge, reactivate and reconfigure them to work correctly on the new cPanel account.<\/p>\n

  1. First grab all of the content for AddonDomain.com<\/strong> via FTP<\/a> using the userna2<\/strong> username.<\/li>\n
  2. In this example we\u2019re connected using FileZilla, with the server\u2019s files on the right-hand side, and our local folders on the left. You\u2019ll want to hold down Ctrl<\/strong> on your keyboard and then click on the etc<\/strong>, mail<\/strong>, and public_html<\/strong> directories to select them all, then drag them over to a new folder you\u2019ve setup on your local computer.

  3. Now we want to also generate a backup of our MySQL database that we need for the site, in order to do this you\u2019ll want to Login to your cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  4. Once logged in, navigate down to the Files<\/strong> section then click the Backup<\/strong> link.

  5. Under the\u00a0Download a MySQL Database Backup<\/strong> section, click on\u00a0userna2_wrdp1<\/strong>.

  6. Next you\u2019ll want to log into WHM<\/a>\u00a0so that we can modify our AddonDomain.com<\/b> site temporarily so that we can attach it to our other cPanel account.

  7. In the top-left\u00a0Find<\/strong>\u00a0box type in\u00a0modify<\/b>, then click on\u00a0Modify an Account<\/strong>.

  8. Select\u00a0AddonDomain.com<\/strong>, then\u00a0click on\u00a0Modify<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  9. In the\u00a0Primary Domain:<\/strong> field add a\u00a0-temp.com<\/strong> suffix to your domain, so in this case we use\u00a0AddonDomain-temp.com<\/strong>. Then scroll to the bottom and click on\u00a0Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  10. Still in WHM in the top-left\u00a0Find<\/strong> box type in\u00a0List<\/strong>, and then click on\u00a0List Accounts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  11. Now click on the cPanel icon for the\u00a0PrimaryDomain.com<\/strong> account with the username\u00a0userna1<\/strong>.

  12. Under the\u00a0Domains<\/strong>\u00a0section, click on\u00a0Addon Domains<\/strong>.

  13. Now type in\u00a0AddonDomain.com<\/strong> as the new domain name, and choose a FTP username and document root for the site as well then click on\u00a0Add Domain<\/strong>.

  14. Now that the domain has been added to our\u00a0userna1<\/strong> account, you\u2019ll want to connect via FTP again to that account. Then navigate to the\u00a0etc<\/strong> directory in both window panes, and finally drag the\u00a0AddonDomain.com<\/strong> directory from your local computer to the server\u2019s\u00a0etc<\/strong> directory.

  15. Next navigate to the\u00a0mail<\/strong> folder in both window panes, and again drag the\u00a0AddonDomain.com<\/strong>\u00a0directory from the local computer side to the server side.

Finally navigate in both windows to the\u00a0public_html<\/strong> directory, then on the server side navigate into the\u00a0AddonDomain.com<\/strong> directory that we created when creating the addon domain. On your local computer side hit\u00a0Ctrl-A<\/strong> to select all of the files, then drag them over into the remote side.

  17. Now that you have all of your website data loaded under the\u00a0userna1<\/strong> cPanel account the next thing you need to do is restore your MySQL database that you backed up. To do this\u00a0login to your cPanel<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0userna1<\/strong> username.<\/li>\n
  18. Under the\u00a0Databases<\/strong>\u00a0section click on\u00a0MySQL Database Wizard<\/strong>.

  19. Now in this case I already know the\u00a0userna1<\/strong>\u00a0user has one WordPress site and database already, so I\u2019ll be naming my database\u00a0userna1_wrdp2<\/strong>, then click on Next Step<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  20. I\u2019m also going to set my database username to\u00a0userna1_wrdp2<\/strong>, give that user a password then click on\u00a0Create User<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  21. Finally on the last step of the database wizard, click on\u00a0ALL PRIVILEGES<\/strong> to check everything, then click on\u00a0Next Step<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  22. Next we need to restore our database backup, so click on\u00a0Return Home<\/strong> to get back to the cPanel home screen.<\/li>\n
  23. Back at the cPanel home screen, under\u00a0Databases<\/strong>, click on\u00a0phpMyAdmin<\/strong>.

  24. In the left-hand menu, click on our userna1_wrdp2<\/b> database.<\/li>\n
  25. Now at the top click on the Import<\/b> tab.<\/li>\n
  26. Next click on\u00a0Choose File<\/strong> to browse your local computer for the database backup we saved earlier, for our example it would be called\u00a0userna2_wrdp1.sql.gz<\/strong>. Then click\u00a0Go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  27. You should see the import was successful by the green status bar at the top stating the import successfully finished, and there should now be tables on the left-hand menu as well.<\/li>\n

  29. Navigate to the document root<\/a> for AddonDomain.com<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  30. Right-click on the\u00a0wp-config.php<\/strong> script then click on\u00a0Edit<\/strong>, then in the\u00a0Text Editor<\/strong> pop-up you can just click on\u00a0Edit<\/strong> again.<\/li>\n
  31. For WordPress the database configuration lines look like the following:

  32. Finally you can log into WHM<\/a>\u00a0once more to remove the olnel, ud standalone account.<\/li>\n
  33. In the top-left Find<\/b> box, type in\u00a0terminate<\/strong>, then click on\u00a0Terminate an Account<\/strong>.

  34. Click on the\u00a0AddonDomain-temp.com<\/strong> domain, then click on\u00a0Terminate<\/strong> at the bottom of the page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You should now have successfully merged your AddonDomain.com<\/strong> site from the userna2<\/strong> account into the userna1<\/strong> account.
