The WHM<\/abbr> Security Advisor<\/strong> scans for possible changes to harden your VPS<\/abbr> security. Below we cover how to clear the following error for VPS users not using remote MySQL:<\/p>\n

The MySQL service is configured to listen on all interfaces: (bind-address=*)
\nConfigure bind-address=127.0.0.1 in \/etc\/my.cnf, or close port 3306 in server\u2019s firewall<\/em><\/div>\n

Security Advisor Scan<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. To check for the MySQL service<\/strong> warning, first Login WHM<\/a> as root.<\/li>\n
  2. Select Security Advisor<\/strong> from the menu to start the scan.

  3. Check for the MySQL service alert<\/strong>.
    \n    \"MySQL<\/a>\n
    <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If the alert above does display, you can fix this using one, or both, of the following methods:<\/p>\n

    Edit Config File<\/a> Close Port 3306<\/a><\/p>\n

    Note<\/strong>: This may prevent your VPS from using remote MySQL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    Edit Config File<\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. SSH into your server<\/a> as root.<\/li>\n
    2. Edit the\n
      \/etc\/my.cnf<\/pre>\n
      file and add<\/p>\n
      bind-address=127.0.0.1<\/pre>\n
      to the file. To do so using nano editor:<\/p>\n
      Type<\/p>\n
      nano \/etc\/my.cnf<\/pre>\n
      and press<\/p>\n
      Enter \u2936<\/pre>\n
      to open the file. Scroll to the bottom of the file using the<\/p>\n
      Down<\/pre>\n
      arrow and add<\/p>\n
      bind-address=127.0.0.1<\/pre>\n
      . Press<\/p>\n
      Control<\/pre>\n
      and<\/p>\n
      x<\/pre>\n
      for the save prompt before exiting. Press<\/p>\n
      y<\/pre>\n
      , then<\/p>\n
      Enter \u2936<\/pre>\n
      to save the file.

      Close Port 3306 using CSF<\/h2>\n
      Another option is to close port 3306<\/strong> using your firewall. Advanced Policy Firewall (APF)<\/strong> users can remove the port from the APF configuration file<\/a> using SSH as root. ConfigServer & Firewall (CSF)<\/strong> users can do this within WHM as root using the steps below.<\/p>\n

      1. Select ConfigServer Security & Firewall<\/strong> from the WHM menu.<\/li>\n
      2. Under csf \u2013 ConfigServer Firewall<\/em> select Firewall Configuration<\/strong>.
        \n        \"CSF<\/a>\n

      3. Under IPv4 Port Settings<\/em> and Allow incoming TCP ports<\/strong>, remove \u201c3306<\/em>\u201d from the text field.

      4. Select Change<\/strong> at the bottom, then Restart csf+lfd<\/strong>.

      5. Afterwards, rescan with cPanel Security Advisor<\/strong> to ensure the error doesn\u2019t recur.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
