In a typical account, the <strong>MX records<\/strong> can be managed in the Zone Editor of the cPanel. However, they can also be managed in the <strong>WebHost Manager (WHM)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main advantage of WHM is that you can manage multiple accounts or a domain\u2019s email routing and MX records from a single interface. You will need your mail server settings in order to add\/edit these changes. This will include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/backups-and-restorations\/\"><em>Time To Live (TTL)<\/em><\/a><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> value, the <\/span><em style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Priority<\/em><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">, and the <\/span><em style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">MX Destination<\/em><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">. The TTL value is set to 14400 (4 hours) by default. Fill in the <\/span><em style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Priority<\/em><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> and <\/span><em style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">MX Destination<\/em><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> fields with the proper information for your mail server. In general, you should specify the mail server to be <strong>Local<\/strong> if the VPS or Dedicated server is being used for processing your email. We will now go over the other available options and how to change them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mx-routing\">MX Routing Options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your email is being processed by a server that is not the same as the server on your VPS or Dedicated server account, then your server setting should be set to <strong>Remote<\/strong>. The table below describes each setting for email routing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Higher priority means that the number will be lower. For example, a mail server with a lower number in the priority field will have precedence over a mail server that has a larger value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><th>Setting<\/th><th>Description<\/th><\/tr><tr><td>Automatic<\/td><td>This setting allows the system to select the appropriate server setting based on the priority and IP address of the mail server. <em>Note that the system cannot set the email routing automatically if the URL provided for the server cannot be resolved.<\/em> These are the values that can be assigned automatically: <p>\u00a0<\/p> <p>The <em>Local Mail Exchanger<\/em> setting is used if the lowest priority is matched to an IP address on your server.<\/p> <p>The <em>Backup Mail Exchanger<\/em> is selected when a mail server with a higher priority is pointing to an IP address on your server. Mail is saved until a mail server with a higher priority becomes available for the mail to be delivered.<\/p> <p>The <em>Remote Mail Exchanger<\/em> option is selected when there are no mail server settings pointing to an IP address on your server.<\/p> <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Backup Mail Exchanger<\/td><td>When this option is selected the server accepts and saves delivered mail until another mail server with a higher priority is available.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Remote Mail Exchanger<\/td><td>Mail is handled by a different server and will <em>not<\/em> be processed by this server.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"steps\">Steps to Set the Email Routing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"article_list wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/whm\/log-into-whm\/\">Login to WHM<\/a>.<\/li><li>Type <strong>dns<\/strong> in the search box then click <span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Edit MX Entry<\/strong><\/span> in the <em>DNS Functions<\/em> on the left menu<span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Select the <strong style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">Email Routing<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\"> option.
