A very common task that\u2019s often involved in moving from one host to another is the migration of databases. There are two ways to export your database if you\u2019re using MySQL \u2013 through a client interface like phpMyAdmin or through the command line using SSH. We\u2019ll cover both methods in the steps below.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Exporting a Database with phpMyAdmin<\/h2>\n
By default, the phpMyAdmin client is limited to exporting or importing databases of 50 MB or less. If it is larger than 50MB you can use the command line<\/a> method.<\/div>\n

    1. Login to WHM<\/a> as the \u201croot<\/a>\u201d user.<\/li>\n
    2. Open phpMyAdmin<\/strong>. In WHM you can easily search by typing \u201cphpmyadmin\u201d in the search bar at the top left, and you\u2019ll see it appear in the menu.

    3. Click on the button labeled Databases<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. Select the Database<\/i> you want to export.

    5. Click on the tab labeled EXPORT<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    6. We will be using the QUICK<\/b> options and exporting in the SQL format<\/i>. This means that you don\u2019t need to select any options. Just click GO<\/b> in order to begin the export of the database. You will be required to select a location to save the file and name the saved file. Make sure you record this location as well as the name of the file so that you can find it later.

      Exporting a Database using the MySQL Command Line<\/h2>\n

      1. Login to SSH<\/a> as the \u201croot<\/a>\u201d user.<\/li>\n

        Use the following command line:<\/p>\n

        mysqldump -u username -p databasename > SQLfile-created-by-export.sql<\/pre>\n
        The table below breaks down the commands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
        Username<\/th>\nThis is the MySQL user assigned to the database<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
        Databasename<\/th>\nThis is the name of the MySQL database<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
        SQLfile-created-by-export.sql<\/th>\nThis is the name of the SQL file created when the file is created<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
        Keep in mind that the location of your exported file will be based on where you specify the file location in the command, or, if you don\u2019t specify the location, based on where you actually run the command. Make sure that you record the location name of the file so that you can find it later.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
