Beginning with Moodle 2.6 is the ability to Import<\/strong> and Export Role definitions<\/strong>. This allows you to share your role definitions, or use them on other Moodle sites. In this tutorial we will show you how to Import and Export Role Definitions in Moodle.<\/p>\n

Exporting Role Definitions<\/h2>\n

  1. Login to your Moodle Administrator Dashboard<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. In the Administration<\/em> section, click Site administration<\/strong>\u2013>Users<\/strong>\u2013>Permissions<\/strong>\u2013>Define roles<\/strong>. The image below shows you what order to click them in.

  3. On the next page, click the Role<\/strong> you want to export. In my tests, I am exporting the Manager<\/em> role.<\/li>\n
  4. You will now see a summary of the role you selected, click the Export<\/strong> button. You will then download the .xml<\/strong> file containing the role definitions.

    Importing Role Definitions<\/h2>\n

    3. Click the Add a new role<\/strong> button on the bottom. You will then be on the Adding a new role<\/em> page.<\/li>\n
    4. In the Use role or archetype<\/em> menu, choose the type of role you want to import. Drag & drop the .xml<\/strong> file into the available field, then click the Continue<\/strong> button.
