This tutorial describes how to set up Apple Mail in the Mavericks OS (OSX 10.9.2) and MacOS Ventura (version 13.1). The Apple Mail version in Mavericks OS is version 7.2[1874], and the Ventura version is 16.0 [3731].  Using an InMotion Hosting account, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/email\/how-to-create-an-email-account\/\">set up email accounts<\/a> through the cPanel. Scroll to the bottom of that list and then select <strong>Add Other Account<\/strong>. Scroll down, and click on <strong>Add Other Account<\/strong> to start the account addition process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on the method you used above, you will see one of two screens to add an email account. You will then see another list of account types. By default, it is set to \u201cAdd a Mail account\u201d. Fill in the fields then click on <strong>CREATE<\/strong> to continue. Apple Mail will then attempt to auto-create the account. If you need help with this field, please review the tutorial on finding your email settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill in your <strong>User Name<\/strong> and your <strong>Password<\/strong> for the email account. This was set when you created the email account in cPanel. The <strong>User Name<\/strong> must be an email address. For example: <em>someone@example.com<\/em>. You can also find documentation on <a href=\"\/support\/email\/changing-email-password-in-cpanel\/\">changing your email password<\/a> if you have forgotten it or if it needs to be updated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Next<\/strong>. Apple Mail will try to verify the password before continuing. If it is unable to verify the password, then it will give you a message: \u201cAdditional account information required\u201d. Once the password is verified, it will jump to the next screen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Incoming Mail Server Info<\/strong> screen starts off with the <strong>Path Prefix<\/strong>. As per the screenshot, set this to \u201c<strong>INBOX<\/strong>\u201c. Port settings depend upon the protocol you have chosen. The <strong>Authentication<\/strong> password is the same as the email account password. It depends on whether you have approved the certificate in the past.It will state the following: <strong>The identity of \u201cmail.example.com\u201d cannot be verified<\/strong>. Click on <strong>Connect<\/strong> to verify the certificate. This prompt will only appear if you have not approved the certificate to connect with the server in the past or if it was updated. See <a href=\"#verifying\">Problems with Verifying the Server below<\/a>.<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><p>You will next see the <strong style=\"color: initial;\">Outgoing Mail Server Info<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> screen. The SMTP server settings are the same as the Outgoing Server settings that can be found in the <\/span><a href=\"\/support\/email\/view-email-settings\/\">How to find your email settings<\/a><span style=\"color: initial;\"> article. The <\/span><strong style=\"color: initial;\">User Name<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> is the same as the user name in the <\/span><strong style=\"color: initial;\">Incoming server<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> section name \u2013 it is the email account name in full. For example: <\/span><em style=\"color: initial;\">someone@example.com<\/em><span style=\"color: initial;\">. The next field is for the <\/span><strong style=\"color: initial;\">password<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> of the email account. Type it in, then click on <\/span><strong style=\"color: initial;\">Create<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> to proceed.<\/span><\/p><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This screen will show the <strong>Port<\/strong>, <strong>SSL<\/strong> and <strong>Authentication<\/strong> options for the <strong>Outgoing mail server<\/strong>. The port number for the Outgoing mail server is either 25, 587 (non-SSL), or 465 (SSL). The following table summarizes the settings:<div> <table class=\"table table-striped\"> <tbody> <tr> <th>Port setting<\/th> <th>Description<\/th> <\/tr> <tr> <td>AUTO<\/td> <td style=\"text-align: left;\">Lets the computer choose the port to be used. Not recommended as the computer may sometimes \u201chunt\u201d for the port.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td>25<\/td> <td style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the default outgoing port, but may be blocked by the internet provider for spam prevention.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td>587<\/td> <td style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the recommended outgoing port.<\/td> <\/tr> <tr> <td>465<\/td> <td style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the port used for SSL settings. You will need to click on the checkbox that says \u201cUse SSL\u201d.<\/td> <\/tr> <\/tbody> <\/table><\/div><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><div><span style=\"color: initial;\">The <\/span><strong style=\"color: initial;\">Authentication<\/strong><span style=\"color: initial;\"> drop-down<\/span><\/div> menu displays five different options, but you will need to select Password. Click the button labeled Create to<div><span style=\"color: initial;\"> proceed.<\/span><\/div><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"verifying\">Problems With Verifying the Identity of the Server During Setup<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you continually see the <strong>Approve Certificate<\/strong> window appear, ensure that the certificate matches the entry you used for the incoming mail server (above). If it does not match, then click on Cancel or Show certificate. The Show certificate option will allow you to see the certificate\u2019s details. Make sure that it matches the server you\u2019re trying to connect to. If it fails, then you will be able to add more information about the email server. You will see the new mail account appear under the Inbox icon. If you continue to have account creation problems, try changing the settings to use the SSL settings as indicated in the email settings article. This is basically a sync issue with Apple Mail that can be corrected in a few different ways.  One user reported having to delete the account in Apple Mail and re-add it.  Other community users have reported the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shutting Off Mail and Re-enabling Mail App<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"article_list wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Settings, click on <strong>Mail <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Accounts<\/strong>&gt; <strong>[Account Name]<\/strong> &gt; <strong>shut off \u201cmail.\u201d<\/strong>  NOTE: This option is not available in the newest versions of <strong>Apple Mail<\/strong>. You would have to uncheck \u201c<strong>Enable this account<\/strong>\u201d to disable the account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Force quit <strong>Apple Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>Mail <\/strong>app and check that there is no mail for the account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Force quit the <strong>Mail <\/strong>app again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open <strong>Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings <\/strong>and re-enable the account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The account should then re-sync without the error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rebuild Mail Account<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the latest version of the Mac OS, then this option may work better, as Apple Mail includes a new option for rebuilding the account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"article_list wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uncheck \u201c<strong>Enable this account<\/strong>\u201d in <strong>Mail<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Settings <\/strong>&gt; <strong>Account Information<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Force quit <strong>Apple Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Re-open the <strong>Mail <\/strong>app.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings <\/strong>and re-enable the account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close the <strong>Accounts <\/strong>window.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>Mail account <\/strong>(if you have more than one).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Apple Mail menu, go to <strong>Mailbox<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Rebuild<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This should rebuild the account and fix the error.  If either of these methods still result in the error, remove and re-add the account before re-syncing or rebuilding the account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\">\n\n\n\n<p>You should now be able to setup Apple Mail in either the older or newer versions of Mac OS.
