The <em>menu item type<\/em> defines what and how the content on the next page will look like.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if you choose the <a href=\"#single-article\"><em>Single Article<\/em> menu item type<\/a>, that link will direct users to one individual article. Selecting the <a href=\"#category-list\"><em>Category List<\/em> menu item type<\/a> will link to a page listing all of the articles belonging to the category you choose.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I set the Joomla Menu Item Type?<\/h2>\n<p>When you are in the <strong>Edit Menu Item<\/strong> area of your Joomla Dashboard, one of the first settings you will see is <strong>menu item type<\/strong>. When you click <strong>Select<\/strong> next to this option, you will see a listing of item types you can choose from.<\/p>\n<h2>What does each menu item do?<\/h2>\n<p>Below, you will find a brief summary and example screenshots for all default menu items. As you can see in the screenshot to the right, our admin dashboard shows the <em>Custom HTML Module<\/em> and <em>What\u2019s New in 1.5?<\/em> articles as archived, and those two articles show on the front end of the website.<\/p>\n<p>This menu type also includes a filter at the top of the page to show archived articles based upon Month and Year.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"category-blog\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"clear: both;\">Category Blog<\/h4>\n<p class=\"alert alert-info\"><strong>Category Blog:<\/strong> Displays article introductions in a single or multi-column layout.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/edu\/joomla-3\/menu-item-types\/article-category-blog.gif\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"std_ss\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0px 0px 15px 15px;\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/edu\/joomla-3\/menu-item-types\/article-category-blog.gif\" alt=\"Category Blog\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p>The <strong>Category Blog menu item type<\/strong> displays the <em>article introductions<\/em> from a category of your choosing.<\/p>\n<p>We have an article category called <em>Park Blog<\/em> with two articles in it: <em>First Blog Post<\/em> and <em>Second Blog Post<\/em>. The screenshot to the right shows these articles as they appear in our Joomla admin dashboard <em>(left)<\/em> and the frontend of our website <em>(right)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"category-list\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"clear: both;\">Category List<\/h4>\n<p class=\"alert alert-info\"><strong>Category List:<\/strong> Displays a list of articles in a category.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/edu\/joomla-3\/menu-item-types\/article-category-list.gif\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"std_ss\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0px 0px 15px 15px;\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/edu\/joomla-3\/menu-item-types\/article-category-list.gif\" alt=\"Category List\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p>The <strong>Category List menu item type<\/strong> creates a page that simply lists the articles in a category of your choosing.<\/p>\n<p>To the right, you can see that our frontpage is showing all of the articles in the <em>Joomla!<\/em> article category.
