Unfortunately, you can\u2019t simply flip a switch to do this, but you can re-create your email account in your mail client to use the protocol of your choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"pop3-vs-imap\"><li><a href=\"#pop3-vs-imap\">Difference Between POP3 vs IMAP<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#imap-to-pop3\">Switch From IMAP to POP3<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#pop3-to-imap\">Switch From POP3 to IMAP<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<h2>Difference between POP3 vs IMAP<\/h2>\n<p>When you need to check your email on the server, there are 2 different protocols <strong>POP3<\/strong> or <strong>IMAP<\/strong> available to use. Depending on how you utilize your email, one way might be more preferable to the other for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3>POP3 vs IMAP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 46%;\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/generic\/pop3-server.png\" alt=\"pop3-server\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\"><\/figure><div style=\"margin: 0px 0px 15px 100px;\"><\/div>\n<p>With <strong>POP3<\/strong> (<strong>Post Office Protocol<\/strong>) this would be the same as simply going into the post office, removing everything in your post office box and taking it home with you. You retain the physical copies of all of your mail that has been sent to you, and the post office (server) doesn\u2019t have to deal with them further.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 46%;\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/generic\/imap-server.png\" alt=\"imap-server\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\"><\/figure><div style=\"margin: 0px 0px 15px 100px;\"><\/div>\n<p>With <strong>IMAP<\/strong> (<strong>Internet Mail Access Protocol<\/strong>) instead of simply taking everything out of your box and home with you every time. You instead grab a copy of each message, and the original stays in the post office box (server). This is convenient if you have multiple devices such as a desktop, laptop, smartphone, and tablet all trying to check mail from the same account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"imap-to-pop3\">Switch from IMAP to POP3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Switching an <strong>IMAP<\/strong> account to <strong>POP3<\/strong> would allow you to alleviate the server from managing your emails, and instead they would be stored locally on your computer.
