This was done to provide an extra layer of security and to help prevent CSRF (Cross-site request forgery) attacks.<\/p>\n<h2>What do security tokens look like?<\/h2>\n<p>When you\u2019re logged in to either <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/cpanel\/cpanel-control-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cPanel<\/a> or <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/whm\/log-into-whm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WHM<\/a>, you\u2019ll now see <strong>cpsess<\/strong> followed by a number in the address bar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 25px;\"><\/p><center><strong>cPanel<\/strong><\/center>\n<p><\/p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/cpanel\/securty-tokens\/cpanel-cpsess-security-token-in-url-bar.png\" alt=\"cPanel security token\" style=\"width: 540px;\"><\/center>\n<p><\/p><center><strong>WHM<\/strong><\/center>\n<p><\/p><center><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/cpanel\/securty-tokens\/whm-cpsess-security-token-in-url-bar.png\" alt=\"WHM security token\"><\/center>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 15px;\">In this case you can see I\u2019ve highlighed <strong style=\"background-color: yellow;\">cpsess8185580286<\/strong> when trying to access <strong>cPanel<\/strong> and <strong style=\"background-color: yellow;\">cpsess4067102361<\/strong> when trying to access <strong>WHM<\/strong>, these are the security tokens for those particular login sessions of mine.<\/p>\n<h2>What do security tokens do?<\/h2>\n<p>A security token is simply a string of text that is uniquely generated on each login session. It can help ensure that an unauthorized user does not hijack a user\u2019s session, and will require re-authentication if the security token does not match what is stored for the session.<\/p>\n<p>A good example of when you might encounter issues with cPanel security tokens, would be trying to bookmark a particular page in cPanel. For instance if you bookmarked the <strong>Addon Domains<\/strong> page in cPanel the URL would be something like this:<\/p>\n<p><code>https:\/\/vps1234.inmotionhosting.com:2082\/<strong style=\"background-color: yellow;\">cpsess515294239<\/strong>\/frontend\/x3\/addon\/index.html<\/code><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 15px;\">If you try to come back to that page a day later, your cPanel login security token isn\u2019t going to match that URL.
