In this article I\u2019ll go over how you can add a FTP<\/a> site to your Windows favorites so that you can quickly access your website files on the server, much like you would with either WebDav or WebDisk<\/a> being enabled on the server.<\/p>\n

Adding a FTP site to Windows favorites<\/h2>\n

Using the steps below I\u2019ll show you how to make your FTP account very simple to access by using Windows Explorer in Windows 7.<\/p>\n

For this example I\u2019m using a dummy domain called example.com<\/strong> with a FTP user of example<\/strong> and a password of qwerty123<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Click on the Start<\/strong> button, type in computer<\/strong> in the Search programs and files<\/strong> box, then click on Computer<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Next click on Map network drive<\/strong> at the top.<\/p><\/li>\n

  3. \"click<\/a>\n
    <\/div>\n

    Then click on Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

  4. On the Welcome to the Add Network Location Wizard<\/strong> page, simply click Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    Now click on Choose a custom network location<\/strong>, then click on Next<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Under the Internet or network address<\/strong> field type in your full FTP path including username and password if you would like to not be prompted each time for this information.<\/p>\n

    In this example I\u2019ve used the following network address:<\/p>\n

    ftp:\/\/example:qwerty123@example.com<\/p>\n

    The address should be in the format of ftp:\/\/<\/strong>username<\/strong>:<\/strong>password<\/strong>@<\/strong>example.com<\/strong><\/p><\/li>\n

    Give a name for this FTP connection, then click on Next<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    In this case, go ahead and un-check Open this network location when I click Finish<\/strong>, then click on Finish<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Now you should see your FTP site below the Computer<\/strong> section, go ahead and drag it up to your Favorites<\/strong> to create a shortcut.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Now go ahead and click on your FTP site under your Favorites<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    At this point I\u2019d recommend dragging your public_html<\/strong> directory under the first favorite we created. That way you have quick access to your full account, but can also just directly drag files to your public_html<\/strong> directory to have them display on your website.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Here you can see I\u2019m dragging an image file sunset-over-mountains.png<\/strong> into my public_html on example.com<\/strong> shortcut.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Because I uploaded the image to my public_html<\/strong> image, I can go ahead and pull it up in my web-browser now with success.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
