However, this setting can be manipulated in the .htaccess file. PrestaShop requires that URL rewriting be active when Friendly URLs are enabled as an option. If the URL rewriting is disabled, then a 404 error will appear when attempting to use the login for the PrestaShop website. The following steps explain how to correct this error on your InMotion Hosting account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fixing a 404 Error in PrestaShop when Mod_Rewrite is Disabled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/cpanel\/how-to-log-into-cpanel\/\">Log into cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/cpanel\/using-file-manager-in-cpanel\/\">File Manager<\/a> and then navigate to the installation location of your PrestaShop installation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the root of your PrestaShop installation look for the <strong>.htaccess<\/strong> file. Click on the file to highlight it and then click on <strong>EDIT<\/strong> or <strong>CODE EDIT<\/strong> at the top of the <em>File Manager<\/em> in order to edit the file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>URL Rewriting <\/strong>is on by default on all InMotion Hosting servers. This means that you do not need to specifically have code in the <strong>.htaccess<\/strong> file to turn on the option. However, code can be included in the <strong>.htaccess<\/strong> file that can turn <strong>OFF<\/strong> the option and may often be the source of the problem.\u00a0 Observe the screenshot at right for an example of how this may appear.<br><br><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/images\/stories\/edu\/prestashop1.5\/404error\/mod-write-off.png\" alt=\"Shows that mod_rewrite is disabled\"><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit the<strong> .htaccess<\/strong> file and turn <strong>mod_rewrite<\/strong> so that it is <strong>ON<\/strong>. This changes the Rewrite Engine setting to ON (\u2018RewriteEngine on\u2019). If it is disabled, you will see it set as \u2018RewriteEngine off\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Save Changes<\/strong> in the top right hand corner of the editor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If URL Rewrite enabled, then the 404 error will not appear.
