To keep navigation standard within the Movable Type interface, a filtering system and display options are provided. \u00a0There is also a general search that, like the other search options, is context related and will change depending on the menu section that you are viewing. \u00a0The following article will review all of the search and filter options available within the Movable Type interface.\n<\/div>\n

Understanding the Search, Filter and Display options within the Movable Type Dashboard<\/h2>\n

User Dashboard Search<\/h3>\n

When you first login to the Movable Type Dashboard<\/a>, you will be the given the choice of selecting a Website or Blog, since the interface can manage multiple sites. \u00a0In the top right hand corner, there is an icon that resembles a magnifying glass. If you click on it, you will be given the option to search for ENTRIES.<\/strong>\u00a0 The search covers all of the websites managed within the Movable Type dashboard. <\/p>\n

The search will automatically change the menu on the left to TOOLS>SEARCH & REPLACE\u00a0<\/strong>and then give the options to change the search type after the search is initiated. \u00a0Screenshots display how the screen will change. \u00a0Note that there are options to change the type of search, but it still only a general search, though it looks through all entries that the Dashboard manages. <\/p>\n

This search option (represented by the magnifying glass ) also stays in the interface even after selecting a website or blog to edit with the Movable Type Dashboard. \u00a0However, if you select a specific website or blog, then the search is narrowed to that specific website.<\/p><\/div>\n

To use this search option:<\/p>\n

  1. Login to the Movable Type Administrator Dashboard<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Click on the icon resembling the magnifying glass in the top right corner.<\/li>\n
  3. Click in the field (labeled \u201cSearch\u2026\u201d -this will change per the menu you have selected), type in an item to search. \u00a0Note that this search will search throughout the managed sites within your Movable Type installation.\n

    Display Options<\/h3>\n

    The DISPLAY OPTIONS<\/strong>\u00a0appear in the far right side of the screen (below the search option represented by the magnifying glass icon). \u00a0When you click on the drop-down arrow, you will see the options that can be selected. \u00a0It starts with the SHOW<\/strong> option that \u00a0can be set to show from 25-200 rows of results for your search. The next item is called COLUMN<\/strong> which allows you to select or remove columns that would appear in your search results. \u00a0These options are contextual, meaning that options for display will change based on the menu item that you have selected at left. \u00a0For example, if you were to select ASSETS<\/strong>, you would see specific columns related to the ASSETS that can be found within Movable Type. \u00a0Finally, if you want to remove your changes, you have the option to revert back to the default. settings.<\/p>\n

    To change the Display Options:<\/p><\/div>\n

    1. Login to the Movable Type Administrator Dashboard.<\/li>\n
    2. Select a website\/blog to manage.<\/li>\n
    3. In the far right of the screen, look for DISPLAY OPTIONS<\/strong>. \u00a0Click on the drop-down arrow.<\/li>\n
    4. Click on the drop-down arrow under\u00a0SHOW<\/strong> to change the number of search results to display.<\/li>\n
    5. Click on the checkbox for the COLUMNS<\/strong> that you may wish to hide or display.<\/li>\n
    6. Run your SEARCH<\/strong> and they will display per the settings that you have set.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/p>\n

      Delete, Actions and Filter Interface<\/h3>\n

      The next interface, like DISPLAY OPTIONS<\/strong>, will appear for all of the options that you select when managing items within the Movable Type Dashboard interface. \u00a0Results (or no results) will always appear using this interface. \u00a0If there are items for the menu item that you searching, then they will appear within a table format. \u00a0The example in the screenshot below illustrates that no blogs are found, but it also shows the interface that is used during display of the managed items and also any search results.<\/p>\n

      \"Search<\/a><\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n

      The DELETE<\/strong>\u00a0button and the MORE ACTIONS<\/strong> drop-down menu are available at the top and bottom of the interface to make it easier to select in case there are many results being displayed. \u00a0The MORE ACTIONS<\/strong> menu is contextual and will change depending on the menu item you have selected in the Dashboard. \u00a0Both of these options require that you click on multiple checkboxes in order for the action or deletion to affect multiple items.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      To use the DELETE<\/strong> or MORE ACTIONS<\/strong> option:<\/div>\n

      2. Click on the website or blog you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
      3. Click on a menu item in the left side of the screen that you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
      4. Click on a checkbox or multiple checkboxes, then either select DELETE<\/strong> or the MORE ACTION<\/strong>option to remove or change the item that you have selected.\n

        Filters are used to isolate specific results so that you can more easily work with an item that you need to manage within the Movable Type Dashboard. \u00a0There are two types of filters available within the Movable Type interface: \u00a0custom filters based on the items field defintions and built-in filters. \u00a0Each item used to create or display pages within Movable Type has a database entry. \u00a0Here the are the locations for each filter type:\n

        To create and use custom filters based on the table definitions:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

        1. Login to the Movable Administrator Dashboard.<\/a><\/li>\n
        2. Click on the website or blog you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
        3. Click on a menu item in the left side of the screen that you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
        4. The FILTER<\/strong> option is directly below the DELETE<\/strong> and MORE ACTIONS<\/strong> items in the interface. Scroll to the right until you see the large drop-down arrow in line with the FILTER -All Assets<\/strong> option. Click on the large-drop down arrow. \u00a0<\/li>\n

          The menu that appears will list all of the table definitions usable for filtering your search results. \u00a0Click on one of the definitions to start the filter definition. \u00a0Note: There TWO ways to create this filter. \u00a0You can also click on the ALL ASSETS<\/strong> link (next to FILTER <\/strong>below the DELETE<\/strong> button). \u00a0This will open up the same drop-down menu as shown when you click on the large drop-down arrow at right.

          After you have selected a table definition, you have the option to add another table item to help futher narrow the search. \u00a0This is done by clicking on the large \u2018+\u2019 sign that appears to the right of the interface. \u00a0If you need to remove a filter item, click on the \u2018x\u2019 in the far right. \u00a0If you wish to use specific text for this filter, then click in the blank field and type in the specific text that you want to use to filter your results. <\/p>\n

        7. Click on APPLY<\/strong> or SAVE<\/strong> in order to apply your filter. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          To find and use Built in Filters:<\/strong><\/div>\n

          1. Login to the Movable Administrator Dashboard.<\/a><\/li>\n
          2. Click on the website or blog you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
          3. Click on a menu item in the left side of the screen that you wish to manage.<\/li>\n
          4. The\u00a0FILTER<\/strong>\u00a0option is directly below the\u00a0DELETE<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0MORE ACTIONS<\/strong>\u00a0items in the interface. Click on the All Assets<\/strong> link next to FILTER<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n

            You will see the menu for CREATE NEW<\/strong> (filter) and the options listed under the Built in Filters. \u00a0Remember that the filters will be contextual and the list may be different depending on the menu item that you have selected.<\/p><\/li>\n
