When you first install Movable Type<\/strong><\/a> on your server, you will need to edit<\/a> the home.html<\/em> permissions<\/strong> and add code to the mt-config.cgi<\/em>. If you skip this step you will get many \u201cInternal Server errors<\/em>\u201d on your site.<\/p>\n

Fixing the Permissions in Movable Type<\/h2>\n

Movable Type by default forces all the file permissions to be 666 for the pages. Even if you manually change the permissions on the server, Movable Type will automatically change the permissions back to 666.<\/strong> When files have 666 permissions on suEXEC<\/em> or CGIwrap<\/em> server, an \u201cInternal Server Error<\/em>\u201d will be thrown. This article will explain how to fix the permissions in your Movable Type program.<\/p>\n

  1. Login into your cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Go to the File Manager<\/a>. Select your Movable Type directory and click Go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n

    Go to your cgi-bin\/mt-config.cgi<\/em> file and edit <\/a>it. Add the following code to the end of the file. <\/p>\n

    Important!<\/strong> Movable Type will not reset the permissions from 666 to 644 automatically. You will need to set the permissions manually on the server initially. After that, the file permissions will be saved correctly.<\/p>\n

    Now when you create new pages and you edit the home.html<\/em> page, you will not get the \u201cInternal Server Error<\/em>\u201c. Pages created from here on will all have the 644 permissions.
