In this article we\u2019ll discuss manually adding a user into phpList, and subscribing them to a list that you have created.<\/p>\n

In most cases phpList is used in order to allow users to subscribe themselves to your mailing lists via a subscribe page. However there are also many cases where you might have already been maintaining a mailing list of your own in a desktop email client, or you just have a list of email accounts already that you\u2019d like to send mail to.<\/p>\n

Add a new user to phpList<\/h2>\n

Follow the steps below to add a new user into phpList, and then subscribe them to one of your mailing lists. We will also be setting them to un-confirmed, so that we ensure they want to receive further mailings from us.<\/p>\n

  1. Login to your phpList admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n

    From the menu on the right, click on Users<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Towards the bottom, click on add a user<\/strong><\/p><\/li>\n

  4. \"fill<\/a>\n
    <\/div>\n

    Now you\u2019ll want to fill in the details for the user you\u2019re adding. Below are the values that we\u2019re using for this example. Not all of the fields have to be filled out, some are filled in by phpList which I\u2019ve indicated by a Green<\/span> background, and some aren\u2019t needed in most cases, indicated by a Yellow<\/span> background. Ones that are Red<\/span>\u00a0should almost always be filled out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
    ID<\/th>\nphpList automatically assigns a unique ID<\/strong> to each user.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Email<\/th>\nThe email address of the user, we used user001@example.com<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Is this user confirmed (1\/0)<\/th>\nSet if a user is already confirmed or not, 0 = No<\/strong> and 1 = Yes<\/strong>. We set our user to not confirmed yet.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Is this user blacklisted<\/th>\nIf a user chooses to unsubscribe from your lists, their email address is still stored in the phpList database to prevent someone else from signing them up again. 0 = No<\/strong> and 1 = Yes<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Number of bounces on this user.<\/th>\nIndicates how many times a message to a user has bounced, and did not deliver.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Entered<\/th>\nphpList sets the date and time when a user first signed up.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Last Modified<\/th>\nIf the user, or the admin changes any details for a user, this will reflect when that change was last made.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Unique ID for User<\/th>\nThis is a longer unique ID that phpList assigns per user.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Send this user HTML emails<\/th>\nSet if this user should receive HTML emails, or plain text ones. 0 = No<\/strong> and 1 = Yes<\/strong>, we set ours to 1<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Which page was used to subscribe<\/th>\nIf a user subscribes via one of your subscribe pages to a list, this will show which one they used.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    RSS Frequency<\/th>\nIf you\u2019ve enabled RSS feeds in your mailings, this will set the frequency of when they\u2019re updated. Available settings are empty<\/strong>, daily<\/strong>, weekly<\/strong>, monthly<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Password<\/th>\nUsers can be allowed to edit their own personal preferences file if they\u2019ve been assigned a password. This does require changing the ASKFORPASSWORD<\/strong> setting in the phpList config.php<\/strong> file, and isn\u2019t a commonly used feature.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Last time password was changed<\/th>\nIf you are using passwords for your users, this shows the last time it was updated.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Is this account disabled?<\/th>\n\n

    This setting is not used currently in phpList, and should be left blank.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    Additional Data<\/th>\n\n

    The phpList documentation currently lacks any information on this field, and it should be left blank.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    Foreign Key<\/th>\nThis is used if you\u2019re using phpList in conjunction with another application\u2019s database. If you only use phpList you can leave this blank.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    FirstName<\/th>\nThis is an attribute that we defined. We\u2019ve set ours to User<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    LastName<\/th>\nAnother attribute that we defined. We\u2019ve set ours to ZeroZeroOne<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Interests<\/th>\nYet another attribute that we defined. We\u2019ve set ours to Computers<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    Finally under Mailinglist Membership<\/strong>, we\u2019ve selected our weekly newsletter<\/strong>, and then click on Save Changes<\/strong> to add this new user into phpList.<\/p>\n

    You should now notice that phpList has automatically filled in some of the fields, and our weekly newsletter<\/strong> mailing list is selected and highlighted.<\/p>\n


    <\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Send out confirmation email<\/h2>\n

    For the new user we just created, we set them to un-confirmed. They aren\u2019t going to receive any of our mailings until they\u2019ve confirmed their interest, so you can use the steps below in order to send out a confirmation email to any users that aren\u2019t currently confirmed yet<\/p>\n

      From the menu on the right, click on manage users<\/strong><\/p><\/li>\n

      Next, under Control values for<\/strong>, click on reconcile users<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    3. Now at the bottom of the page look for the To resend the request for confirmation to users who signed up and have not confirmed their subscription<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n

      Today is January 8th, 2013. So we would want to set: <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

      Date they signed up before:<\/th>\n9 | January | 2013<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

      Fill out a message to your un-confirmed users in the Text to prepend to email:<\/strong> section.<\/p>\n

      Then click on Click Here<\/strong> prior to the horizontal line on the page to send the confirmation email.<\/p>\n
