In this article we\u2019ll go over how to finish your phpList<\/strong> setup and configuration, after you\u2019ve already completed a manual phpList<\/strong> installation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t already installed phpList<\/strong>, and are a customer of InMotion Hosting, you might want to use the easier installing phpList<\/strong> with Softaculous<\/a> guide that we have. At the end of this article you\u2019ll be directed to that article as well, since the 4 steps we talk about in this article will bring your manual installation to the same stage as one done by Softaculous.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll cover initialising the database, changing the default phpList<\/strong> admin password, disabling test mode, and finally changing the page root of our phpList<\/strong> installation.<\/p>\n

Login to phpList admin dashboard<\/h2>\n

  2. Because this is your first time accessing the admin page, it should let you right in. If you do get prompted for admin credentials at any point, here are the defaults phpList<\/strong>\u00a0sets up:Username: admin<\/strong>Password: phplist<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Initialise phpList database<\/h2>\n

    You need to create all of the various database tables that phpList<\/strong> will use to store its data. This is accomplished by initialising the database from the admin dashboard.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Click on the initialise database<\/strong> link.
      \n      \"phplist-initialise-database\"<\/a>\n
      <\/div>\n<\/li>\n
    2. You should see all of the database tables getting initialised. Once complete click on phpList setup<\/strong> at the bottom of the page to continue with the setup of the phpList<\/strong> software.

      <\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \u00a0<\/div>\n

      Change admin password<\/h2>\n

      You\u2019ll want to change the default phpList<\/strong> admin password to ensure your installation is secure. For more information on how to choose a secure password please read our guide on an introduction to password security<\/a>.<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. Beside Change Admin Password<\/strong>, click on go there<\/strong>.
        \n        \"php-list-admin-change-admin-password\"<\/a>\n
        <\/div>\n<\/li>\n
      2. Replace the default Password<\/strong> of phplist<\/strong>, with your own password, then click on Save Changes<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \u00a0<\/div>\n

        Take phpList out of test mode<\/h2>\n

        You should notice there has been an informational notice since we logged into the phpList<\/strong> admin dashboard with the following text:<\/p>\n

        Running in testmode, no emails will be sent. Check your config file.<\/p>\n

        Follow the steps below to disable test mode in\u00a0phpList<\/strong>\u00a0now that you have your new admin password set.<\/p>\n

        1. Login to your cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
        2. Under the Files<\/strong> section, click on File Manager<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        3. Select the Document Root for:<\/strong> option, and choose your domain from the drop-down.<\/li>\n
        4. Then click Go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/div>\n
        5. Navigate to the \/public_html\/list\/config<\/strong> directory from the left-hand pane. \"cpanel-file-manager-navigate-to-config\"<\/a>\n
          <\/div>\n<\/li>\n
        6. Now right-click on the config.php<\/strong> file, then click on Edit<\/strong> \"edit-config-php-file\"<\/a>\n
          <\/div>\n<\/li>\n
        7. You might have a text editor encoding dialog box pop-up, you can simply click on Edit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        8. You should be able to hit Ctrl-F<\/strong> in your web-browser to launch a find on the current page. In your web-browser\u2019s find box type in the following: define (\"TEST<\/code>That should move the text editor to the section that text is encountered at, and highlight it for you.\n

          You\u2019ll want to change that line of code so that instead of reading:<\/p>\n

          define (\"TEST\",1);<\/code><\/p>\n

          It should read:<\/p>\n

          define (\"TEST\",0);<\/code><\/p><\/li>\n

          Update page root of install<\/h3>\n

          While we still have the config.php<\/strong> file open, we\u2019ll also want to update our page root of our phpList<\/strong> install. This is because we changed the default directory name from \/lists<\/strong> to just \/list<\/strong> when we were manually installing it.<\/p>\n

        9. Now again using Ctrl-F<\/strong> in your web-browser look for the following entries:
          \n$pageroot = '\/lists';
          \n$adminpages = '\/lists\/admin';<\/code>\n

          Make sure to replace them with just \/list<\/strong>, taking off the s<\/strong><\/p>\n

          $pageroot = '\/list';
          \n$adminpages = '\/list\/admin';<\/code><\/p>\n

          Finally click on Save Changes<\/strong> up at the top-right.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Complete your phpList setup<\/h2>\n

          At this point you should now have successfully brought your manual installation of phpList<\/strong>, up to the same level that an automated installation via Softaculous would complete for you.<\/p>\n
