In this article we\u2019ll review how to install phpList<\/strong> manually onto your php website hosting<\/a>. phpList<\/strong> is used for easy web based email marketing, and allows you to do direct email marketing to your users.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve been looking for a great way to send out email blasts, for opt in email marketing, phpList<\/strong> is among one of the simplest email marketing software packages that you can use.<\/p>\n

To get started simply follow the steps below.<\/p>\n

Download phpList from SourceForge<\/h2>\n

    You will be taken to SourceForge<\/strong> to download the file.<\/p>\n

    Wait for the download count-down to complete, or you can click on either the direct link<\/strong>, or mirror<\/strong> links to begin the download.<\/p>\n

  3. Extract the downloaded phplist-2.10.19.zip<\/strong> archive to a local folder on your computer.\n

    Note the folder location as we\u2019ll need to come back to these files in just a minute.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Create a MySQL database to store phpList settings<\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. First login to your cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    2. \"click-on-mysql-database-wizard\"<\/a>\n

      Under the Databases<\/strong> section, click on MySQL Database Wizard<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

      In the New Database<\/strong> field, give your database a name, in this example we\u2019re using phplist<\/strong>. Then click on Next Step<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

      In the Username<\/strong> field, create a database username, in this example we\u2019re using phplist<\/strong>. Then fill out and confirm the Password<\/strong> making sure that you\u2019ve copied it down. Finally click on Create User<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

      Finally place a check mark beside ALL PRIVELEGES<\/strong>, then click on Next Step<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    6. You should now simply see that your database user was added to your database.User \u201cuserna1_phplist\u201d was added to the database \u201cuserna1_phplist\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Upload phpList files via FTP to server<\/h2>\n

      1. Using your favorite FTP<\/a> client, navigate to the local folder that you had extracted phpList<\/strong> to in the left pane, being sure to go into the public_html<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n
      2. Connect to your account on the server and in the right pane navigate to your \/public_html\/<\/strong> directory.<\/li>\n

        Now drag the lists<\/strong> folder from your local computer, into the \/public_html\/<\/strong> directory on the server.<\/p><\/li>\n

      4. You can right-click on the lists<\/strong> directory on the server, then select Rename<\/strong> if you want your phpList<\/strong> installation to be accessible from another location than the default. In this case I\u2019ve chosen simply list<\/strong>.
