In the event that MediaWiki cannot be installed through a program like Softaculous or Fantastico, the MediaWiki<\/strong> software will need to be installed manually to the server. MediaWiki can be Downloaded from the Mediawiki site at the following link.<\/p>\n

MediaWiki 1.20.2 (download)<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Version that will be installed is MediaWiki 1.20.2. Make sure the file that is downloaded is named:<\/p>\n

mediawiki-1.20.2.tar.gz<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Once you get the archived file of the software, we can begin installing MediaWiki 1.20.2 to your server. This tutorial will explain the steps on how to do this.<\/div>\n

Manually Installing MediaWiki<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. First, Create a subdomain<\/a> in the cPanel Domains section.<\/li>\n
  2. Create a database and database user<\/a>. Add the database user<\/strong> to the database and save the Username, Password, and Database name in a notepad or other editor to reference it later. This will be needed to set up the Mediawiki program.<\/li>\n
  3. Upload the mediawiki-1.20.2.tar.gz <\/a>file through the cPanel and extract the file to the server<\/a>, or upload the contents of the mediawiki-1.20.2 folder, that is extracted to your local computer, to the directory for the subdomain using ftp<\/a>.<\/li>\n

    Visit the subdomain<\/strong> in your web browser. Initially the MediaWiki 1.20.2 <\/strong>screen should load.<\/p>\n

    Click set up the wiki<\/strong><\/p><\/li>\n

    Next, the MediaWiki 1.20.2 installation screen<\/strong> will load. Select the language for the site and click Continue<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Next the page for configuring the database will display. Here is where you will enter the database information that you saved when setting up the database in your cPanel. Enter the database connection settings. For example:<\/p>\n

    \nDatabase name:<\/strong> cpaneluser_databasename
    \nDatabase table Prefix:<\/strong> This can be left blank or set to anything. ( ie. mw_ or wiki_ )
    \nDatabase username:<\/strong> cpaneluser_username
    \nDatabase password:<\/strong> The password you set when creating the user in cPanel<\/p>\n

    Click Continue<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    The Name <\/strong>page will load, requiring the basic Wiki admin login and Site name set up. Fill in the fields for the administrator account.<\/p>\n

    VERY IMPORTANT!<\/strong> The \u201cYour Name\u201d<\/strong> Field is actually the user name for logging into MediaWiki. It is VERY CRITICAL<\/strong> that the username for the login is correct. After setting up MediaWiki, it is VERY<\/strong> difficult to change the username for the Admin login.<\/p>\n

    Select the I\u2019m bored already, just install the wiki<\/strong> radio button and click Continue<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    Confirm the installation by clicking Continue<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n

    The install screen will load next verifying that the files were installed correctly. Click Continue<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>\n
