When you have <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/create-client\/\">banner clients<\/a> paying you money to show their banners, they will want to see detailed statistics about what their money is actually paying for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"clear: both;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><a name=\"what\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>What statistics are kept?<\/h2>\n<p>When talking about banners, there are two types of data kept:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Impression<\/strong> \u2013 the number of times the banner has been seen<\/li>\n<li><strong>Click<\/strong> \u2013 the number of times the banner has been clicked on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A note about the Click URL<\/h3>\n<p>When we created the banner, we set the Click URL to <em>https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com<\/em>. When we actually click on the banner though, you can see the URL is different.<\/p>\n<table class=\"article_table\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>Click URL<\/th>\n<td><span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Actual URL<\/th>\n<td><span style=\"background-color: #99cc00;\">https:\/\/domain.com\/index.php\/component\/banners\/click\/1<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The reason the URL is different is because it gives Joomla 3.0 a way to track how many times the banner is clicked. The first click goes to <span style=\"background-color: #99cc00;\">https:\/\/domain.com\/index.php\/component\/banners\/click\/1<\/span>. At this page in your site, Joomla logs that the banner is clicked, and then redirects the user to the Click URL that you configured (in our case, <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\"><span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com<\/span><\/span>). Most users will not notice this, and it allows you to accurately track when a user clicks a banner on your site.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><a name=\"how\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>How to view impression and click data<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banners-vs-tracks.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"381\" height=\"362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banners-vs-tracks.jpg\" class=\"optimized-lcp-image\" alt=\"banners-vs-tracks\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banners-vs-tracks.jpg 381w, https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banners-vs-tracks-300x285.jpg 300w\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p>There are two screens in the dashboard that you can view impression and click data from:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>banners<\/li>\n<li>tracks<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>banners page<\/strong> shows an overview of how many impressions and clicks a banner has received, while the <strong>tracks page<\/strong> shows you impression and click data based upon each hour of the day.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h3>Banners \u2013 Viewing General banner data<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the top menu, click <strong>Components<\/strong> and then click <strong>Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_joomla-banner-click-url.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"joomla-banner-click-url\" class=\"std_ss\" height=\"527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_joomla-banner-click-url.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 15px 15px; float: right;\" width=\"909\"><\/a>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p>On this page you will see a list of the banners you\u2019ve created. Find the column labeled Clicks to see how many times your banner was clicked. If you see in the screenshot to the right, it says <strong>1 \u2013 5.88%<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p> The 1 \u2013 5.88% value represents two things:<\/p>\n<table class=\"article_table\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>1<\/th>\n<td>The first number, 1, represents how many times the banner was clicked on.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>5.88%<\/th>\n<td>If you see in the screenshot above, it shows that the banner has 17 impressions (it has been seen 17 times). The 5.88% represents the percentage of people that saw the banner who then clicked on it.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>Tracks \u2013 Viewing Detailed hour by hour data<\/h3>\n<p>After enabling impression and click tracking (discussed further down this page), you can begin to view detailed hourly statistics about your banners. To do this, you\u2019ll need to access the <strong>Tracks<\/strong> section of your Banners Components.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the top menu, click <strong>Components<\/strong> and the click <strong>Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the left menu, click <strong>Tracks<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Understanding the data in the Tracks Report<\/h3>\n<p>In our testing, you can see the output of our tracks report below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"banner-tracks\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9005\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banner-tracks.jpg\" width=\"548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banner-tracks.jpg 548w, https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_joomla-3_banners_banner-tracks-300x137.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 1360px) 876px, (min-width: 960px) calc(61.58vw + 51px), calc(100vw - 80px)\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The table below describes the stats in the Tracks report in the screenshot above:<\/p>\n<table class=\"article_table\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th>My First Banner<\/th>\n<td><strong>My First Banner<\/strong> is the name of <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/create-banner\/\">the first banner that we created<\/a> (not to be confused with the banner module that we created, called <em>My first banner module<\/em>)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>WordPress<\/th>\n<td><strong>WordPress<\/strong> is <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/create-new-category\/\">the banner category that we created<\/a> and assigned the banner to.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>WordPress.org<\/th>\n<td><strong>WordPress.org<\/strong> is <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/create-client\/\">the banner client we created<\/a> (which we assigned the banner to)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Type<\/th>\n<td>\n<div>The type, either impressions or clicks.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Count<\/th>\n<td>The count is simply the value for the type. For example, 4 impressions means 4 users have viewed the banner.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<th>Date<\/th>\n<td>The tracks data is stored by the hour. This is why you see two instances of <em>My First Banner<\/em> for the <em>WordPress.org client<\/em>, the first instance is for the 16:00 hour on 11\/05, and the second is for the 19:00 hours on 11\/05.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div><a name=\"enable\"><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>How to enable banner tracking<\/h2>\n<p>Below we will walk you through the steps for enabling banner tracking, specifically, tracking the number of impressions and the number of clicks per hour (which is shown on the tracks page).There are three different ways in which you can toggle on \/ off banner tracking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>globally<\/li>\n<li>per client<\/li>\n<li>per banner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regardless of the settings you choose below, impression and click data will always be updated on the banners page. The settings below only affect the data that is stored and displayed on the Tracks page.<\/p>\n<h3>How to globally enable banner tracking<\/h3>\n<p>By default, banners are not configured to track clicks and impressions. Therefor, we need to enable these features so that we can begin to collect vital details that will be later shown to our clients. The following steps will show you how to enable the global option for impression and click tracking:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the top menu, click <strong>Components<\/strong> and then click <strong>Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the list of buttons towards the top of the page, click the <strong>Options<\/strong> button<\/li>\n<li>Find the following two settings, click <strong>Yes<\/strong> next to them, and then click <strong>Save<\/strong> in the top left of the page.\n<p><strong>Track Impressions<\/strong><br><em>Record the impressions (views) of the banners on a daily basis.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Track Clicks<\/strong><br><em>Record the number of clicks on the banners on a daily basis.<\/em><\/p><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>How to enable tracking per client<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the top menu, click <strong>Components<\/strong> and then click <strong>Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the list of clients, click the client you would like to enable tracking for<strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Find the <strong>Track Impressions<\/strong> and <strong>Track Clicks<\/strong> settings, set both of them to yes, and then click <strong>Save<\/strong> in the top left of the page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>How to enable tracking per banner<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the top menu, click <strong>Components<\/strong> and then click <strong>Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the list of banners on the page, click the banner that you would like to adjust tracking for<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Banner Details<\/strong> tab towards the top of the page<strong><br><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Set both <strong>Track Impressions<\/strong> and <strong>Track Clicks<\/strong> to <strong>Yes<\/strong>, and then click the Save button in the top left of the page<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Article Overview: What data about banners is kept How to view this banner data How make sure this data is being logged When using banners in Joomla 3.0, tracking their progress is very important.
