The <strong>Tolerance<\/strong> of a question is used to allow answers to be correct, even if they are close to the correct answer. For example, if a math question is <strong>2.3 x 2.011<\/strong>. The correct answer is <strong>4.6253<\/strong>. If the student answers <strong>4.63<\/strong>, the tolerance can accept that answer as correct, even though its not the exact answer. This is similar to \u201c<em>Grading on a curve<\/em>\u201c. This tutorial will explain using the tolerance in the Moodle 2.3 calculated question.<\/p>\n<h3>Setting the Tolerance for a calculated question<\/h3>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/moodle\/moodle-login-administrator\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click for more information\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Log into the Moodle Dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the <strong>Front page settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Question bank<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Questions<\/strong>. Click one of the calculated questions that were created. If there are no calculated questions <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/moodle\/calculated-question-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Click here for more information\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">create one<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_moodle_104_calculated-tolerance_calculated-tolerance.gif\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"716\" height=\"386\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/edu_moodle_104_calculated-tolerance_calculated-tolerance.gif\" class=\"optimized-lcp-image\" alt=\"calculated-tolerance\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\"><\/a>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p>On the <strong>Editing a Calculated multichoice question<\/strong> page, go to the <strong>Answer <\/strong>section. The following chart will explain the different tolerances. <br style=\"clear: both;\"> <\/p>\n<p class=\"alert\"><strong>Note!<\/strong> The tolerance is designed to match the answer with a specific parameter. An answer of <strong>15.7<\/strong> can be answer as <strong>16<\/strong>, <strong>27<\/strong> as <strong>30<\/strong>, and or <strong>50<\/strong> as <strong>50.0<\/strong> and so forth. For example, a Nominal tolerance with the correct answer as <strong>100<\/strong> and the tolerance as <strong>0.01<\/strong>, the Formula will be <strong>(100)*(0.01) &lt;=1<\/strong>. The tolerance is <strong>&lt;= 1<\/strong>.
