If you\u2019re following along in our tutorial series on using Joomla 3.0 banners, we now know how to create both image banners<\/a> and flash banners<\/a>. Creating a banner doesn\u2019t automatically show it on your website, and so that\u2019s the next topic we will discuss.<\/p>\n

How to create a banner module<\/h2>\n

In order to show a banner on your website, you need to create a banner module. Creating a banner module allows you to specify what banners to show on your page, and into which module positions they will show.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Log into your Joomla 3.0 dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. In the top menu, click Extensions<\/strong> and then click Module Manager<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Click New<\/strong> in the top left of the page<\/li>\n
  4. Under Select a Module Type<\/em>, click Banners<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. There are many settings available for your banner module. In our testing we focused on the following essential options:

    \n\n\n\n\n
    Title<\/th>\nModule must have a Title. This title will show on your site by default, however setting the Show Title<\/em> option to Hide<\/em> will prevent this title from showing.\n

    In our testing, we entered Your banner here!<\/em> as the module title.<\/p><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    Position<\/th>\nYou may select a module position from the modal display of pre-defined positions where you can filter by type and template, or enter your own module position by typing the name in the field and Save.\n

    In our testing, we chose Left [position-8]<\/em>. If you\u2019re not sure about how to choose a module position, learn more here<\/a>.<\/p><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    When finished entering the details of your new module, click Save<\/strong> in the top left menu. You can see in the screenshot to the right our new banner is now showing!<\/p>\n

    Why is my banner not showing up?<\/h2>\n

    If your banner is missing or not displaying correctly, there are a few things you check:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Check Client and Cateogry settings<\/strong>\n

      \"banner-client-and-category-settings\"<\/a><\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n

      If you are organising your banners by client and category, it can can make it more difficult to get your banner to work properly. You\u2019ll want to check your banner module\u2019s client and category settings to ensure they are correct. For example, if you set a banner to Category A and your banner module only shows banners from Category B, then your banner will not show.<\/p>\n

      To check banner module client \/ category settings, go to: Extensions<\/strong> \u00bb Module Manager<\/strong> \u00bb Click the banner module in question \u00bb Click the Basic Options<\/strong> tab \u00bb Find the Client<\/strong> and Category<\/strong> settings. If you believe one of these settings is causing your banners not to show, \u201creset\u201d them by setting the Client<\/em> setting to \u2013 No client \u2013<\/strong> and the Category<\/em> setting to \u2013 All Categories \u2013<\/strong> <\/p>\n

    2. Check your Search By Tag setting<\/strong>\n

    3. Check your version of Joomla<\/strong>\n
