Moodle 2.3 has the capability to message users when certain actions occur on the site. For example, if the a student misses a quiz, Moodle will send them a message stating the quiz is over due. These settings can be set to either not message at all, or to message the user when online or offline. In the following article, how to configure the incoming message notification methods in Moodle will be discussed. If the previous article was missed, please check out the tutorial on Editing the User profile in the My Profile Settings of Moodle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Configure notification methods for incoming messages<\/h3>\n

  1. Log into the Moodle Dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n

    In the Settings<\/strong> on the left, navigate to My profile settings<\/strong> > Messaging<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

    Important!<\/strong> Keep in mind that Editing must be turned on<\/a> in the Settings section in order to edit any of these options.<\/p>\n

    The messaging notifications for each of these categories can be set to either When I\u2019m logged in<\/strong> or When I\u2019m offline<\/strong>. Notifications can be turned off altogether as well. Temporarily disable notifications:<\/strong> To disable all notifications in Moodle, check the Temporarily disable notifications checkbox. Forced notifications will be ignored.<\/p>\n

    Jabber message:<\/strong> This configuration allows a Jabber message to pop up when a notifications is sent.<\/p>\n

    General settings:<\/strong> Check the Prevent non-contacts from messaging me<\/strong> box to prevent those who are not contacts from messaging.<\/p>\n

    Options for Configuring incoming messages<\/h2>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

    Assignment notifications<\/strong><\/td>\nThis setting will set the value for messages when a user submits an assignment (Assignment Module). Usually received by the instructor.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Warning when your quiz attempt becomes overdue<\/strong><\/td>\nGives a warning when quizzes are over due.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Available update notifications<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s the administrator if a new version of moodle is available.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Backup notifications<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s of a completed scheduled backup.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Confirmation of your own quiz submissions<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s the student when they successfully submit a quiz.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Course creation request approval notification<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s that a Course was approved.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Course creation request notification<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s the user that the course was requested.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Course creation request rejection notification<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s the user that the course was rejected.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Important errors with the site<\/strong><\/td>\nWhen an error occurs within the Moodle software, the site administrator will be notified.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Essay graded notification<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s users that the Essay was graded.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Personal messages between users<\/strong><\/td>\nAuthenticated users can message each other.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Notices about minor problems<\/strong><\/td>\nSite administrator notification when problems occur.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Subscribed forum posts<\/strong><\/td>\nNotify\u2019s when users subscribe to a forum.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Notification of quiz submissions<\/strong><\/td>\nQuiz submissions will send a notification to the instructor.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
