In Joomla 3.0, there is an article setting referred to as Show Parent<\/strong>. This setting controls whether parent categories of article categories are shown. Joomla gives the following description for this setting:<\/p>\n

Show Parent<\/strong>
If set to Show, the title of the article\u2019s category will show.<\/em><\/p>\n

Understanding the Show Parent setting<\/h2>\n

In our testing, we used the following setup:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Article Title<\/th>\nTest Article 1<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Article Category<\/th>\nSub Category of Main Category<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Parent of Article\u2019s Category<\/th>\nMain Category<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

  1. The default option is to hide the parent category.<\/li>\n
  2. This setting does affect the article when viewing it directly. Instead, it only affects category pages (IE when you are viewing a page that shows a list of articles within a certain category).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

    To adjust the Show Parent setting in Joomla 3.0:<\/h2>\n

    1. Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n
    2. In the top menu, click Content<\/strong> and then click Article Manager<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. In the list of articles, find the article you want to change the category setting for and click the article title<\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. In the tabs above the article, click the Article Options<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n
