Joomla 3.0 offers the following description for this setting:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Default Access Level:<\/strong><br><em>Select the default access level for new content, menu items, and other items created on your site.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The following options are available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Public<\/li>\n<li>Registered<\/li>\n<li>Special<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>How to change the Default Access Level<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"article_list\">\n<li><a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/how-to-log-in-to-administrative-dashboard\/\">Log into your Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the left menu, click the <strong>Global Configuration<\/strong> link<\/li>\n<li>Ensure you are on the <em>Site<\/em> tab by clicking <strong>Site<\/strong> at the top of the page<\/li>\n<li>Under the <em>Site Settings<\/em> heading, find the <strong>Default Access Level<\/strong> setting. Make your desired change, and then click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button in the top left of the page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>How does the Default Access Level setting actually work?<\/h2>\n<p>When you create a new item for your website, such as a <a href=\"\/support\/edu\/joomla\/joomla-3\/write-new-article\/\">new article<\/a>, one of the options you will see is <strong>Access<\/strong>. Access refers to <em>the access level group that is allowed to view the item<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you change the <em>Default Access Level<\/em>, the value you choose will be the default <strong>Access<\/strong> level set. For example, in our testing, we changed this setting to <strong>Registered<\/strong>.
