In this article we\u2019ll give you an overview of what each of these terms are referring to.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Entities and Nodes \u2013 Content on your website<\/h2>\n<p><a name=\"entities\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Entities<\/h3>\n<p>Just about everything in Drupal 7 is an entity. For example, entities can be a <strong>specific thing<\/strong> such as a user or a comment. Entities however can also be ideas, such as the relationship between two different <a href=\"\/support\/website\/security\/password-strength\/#nodes\">nodes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"nodes\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Nodes<\/h3>\n<p>A node in Drupal 7 can be thought of as a section of content you would like to display on your website. Examples of nodes include posts in a blog, forum topics, and articles.<\/p>\n<p>Each node has the following attributes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Content Type<\/li>\n<li>Node ID<\/li>\n<li>Title<\/li>\n<li>Creation date<\/li>\n<li>Author<\/li>\n<li>Body<\/li>\n<li>\u2026 and other additional properties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Regions and Blocks \u2013 Define your site layout<\/h2>\n<p><a name=\"regions\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Regions<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/edu_Drupal_7_Structure_regions_examples-of-regions.gif\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.inmotionhosting.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/edu_Drupal_7_Structure_regions_examples-of-regions.gif\" class=\"optimized-lcp-image\" alt=\"examples-of-regions\" loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear:both;\"><\/div>\n<p>Regions in Drupal 7 are predefined areas in your template where content can be added to. For example, the header, footer, and sidebar are all regions.<\/p>\n<p>In the example to the right, you can see the basic concept of regions in Drupal 7. There are different sections (aka regions) highlighted on the page. Each piece of content that you put on your page is referred to as a block. Blocks are assigned to regions. For example, you can assign a menu (block) to your sidebar (region), or you can assign a site search form (block) to your header (region).<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve highlighted a few blocks in screenshot to the right. As you can see, we have a site search form (block) in our header (region).
