In this Joomla 2.5 tutorial, we will continue our discussion on Access Control Lists in Joomla<\/a> by covering how to create a new User Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In this article, we will pretend that we\u2019re making a website for a school, and there will be three types of users: students, teachers, and parents. Today, we\u2019re going to create a new user group<\/strong> for teachers. This will allow us to segment teachers into their own group, and give those users different permissions than students and parents.<\/p>\n

To create a new Joomla 2.5 ACL User Group:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Log into your Joomla 2.5 Dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. In the top menu, hover over Users<\/strong> >> Groups<\/strong> and then click Add New Group

  3. Enter a Group Title<\/strong>. In our example, we entered Teachers<\/li>\n
  4. Choose a Group Parent<\/strong>. As we plan to allow our teachers to write new content, we will choose Publisher as the group parent.

  5. Click Save & Close<\/strong>\n

    As you can see from our screenshot below, the Teachers Group now shows under the Publishers user group.

  6. We\u2019ll now take a look at the rights our new Teacher group has. In the top menu, hover over Site<\/strong> and click Global Configuration<\/strong>. Click the Permissions<\/strong> tab, and then click Teachers<\/strong>.

    As you can see from the screenshot above, the Teacher\u2019s core permissions<\/a> allows them to log into the front end of the site, create, and edit content.<\/p>\n
