In a previous article, we created a new Category in Joomla 2.5<\/a>, \u201cTest Category 1\u201d. We\u2019ve also created 3 articles<\/a> and assigned each one to this new category. What we\u2019d like to do now is link to this category from one of our Joomla 2.5 menus<\/a>. This will make it easier for visitors to find this category and browse the articles within it.<\/p>\n

To create a Category menu item in Joomla 2.5:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Log into your Joomla Dashboard<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Under Menus<\/strong>, hover over the Menu you would like to add the Category menu item to, and then click Add New Menu Item

  3. Next to Menu Item Type<\/strong>, click Select<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Under Articles<\/strong>, click Category List

  5. Type in a Menu Title<\/strong>. This will be the text that the user clicks on in the menu. In our testing, we set the title to \u201cTest Articles<\/em>\u201c.<\/li>\n
  6. Under Required Settings<\/strong>, Select the Category you would like to link to. In our testing we selected \u201cTest Category 1<\/em>\u201d \u2013 which is our category of test articles.

  7. When you created your Joomla category, you may have typed in a description for the category. If you would like to show this description, under Category Options<\/strong> set Category Description<\/strong> to Show<\/strong>.

  8. Click Save & Close<\/strong>. You now have a new menu item that links to your Category! As you can see the \u201cMenu Title<\/em>\u201d we set in step 5 is a link in our menu, and it links to the category \u201cTest Category 1<\/em>\u201d we chose in step 6.
