How to Activate the Jetpack Plugin for WordPress
In this article, we're going to show you how to activate the Jetpack plugin for WordPress. As with all WordPress plugins, you can both Install and Activate Jetpack from the plugin search page.
However, Jetpack requires a secondary "set up" phase in which you connect your self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com. We'll show you how this works below.
Install the Jetpack Plugin
First, you'll just need to make sure you have already installed the Jetpack plugin.
Once the installation is complete, you can activate the plugin by clicking Activate right from the plugin search screen, or by following the steps below:
- Make sure you're logged into the WordPress Dashboard
- Select Plugins from the menu on the left
- Click Activate under the Jetpack listing
Now you will be redirected to a screen that will help you integrate your self-hosted WordPress site into your WordPress.com account.
Connect Jetpack to WordPress.com
In order to unlock the full power of the Jetpack plugin, you must connect it to an active WordPress.com account. If you already have a WordPress.com account, you will just need your username and password. If not, make sure to go ahead and create a WordPress.com account first.
Proceeding from the Activation stage (above), Jetpack will automatically redirect you to a setup screen that will assist you with the connection.
- Click the button that says Set Up Jetpack
- Fill in the username and password for your WordPress.com account
- Activate features
Your self-hosted WordPress site is now connected to WordPress.com via the Jetpack plugin! Make sure to familiarize yourself with some of the important Jetpack features:
