# How to FTP with Internet Explorer 7/8

The following tutorial will assist you with connecting to your account via [FTP](/support/website/ftp/getting-started-guide/) using the Internet Explorer browser (versions 7 and 8). This is an easy way to use FTP with your web hosting account, and will work on all [shared hosting](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/shared-hosting) / [Virtual Private Servers](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/vps-hosting) / and [dedicated servers](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/dedicated-servers).

## Setting up FTP in Internet Explorer 7/8

1. Open **Internet Explorer**.
2. In the address bar, type the following and then hit enter:ftp://userna5:password@example.com **userna5** *replace this with your cPanel username* **password** *replace this with your cPanel password* **example.com ** *replace this with your actual domain name* [![ie8_ftp_1](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_1.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_1.gif)     When you have connected successfully, you will see a page similar to the following:[![ie8_ftp_2](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_2.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_2.gif)
3. Click, “**Page**” and then click, “**Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer**“.[![ie8_ftp_3](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_3.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_3.gif)
4. You will receive a generic, “**FTP Folder Error**“. Click **OK** to continue.[![ie8_ftp_4](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_4.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_4.gif)
5. Click, “**File**“, “**Login As…**“[![ie8_ftp_5](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_5.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_5.gif)
6. Enter your cPanel username as the, “**User name**“, and enter your cPanel password as the, “**Password**“. Click, “**Log On**“[![ie8_ftp_6](https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_6.gif)](/support/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IE_ie8_ftp_6.gif)
