That image is governed by the #container section of the style.css file. It is set to have a max-width of 1200px. The image itself is also 1200 pixels wide. You would need to adjust the css file for a different size to display it smaller. Keep in mind that the current content area of the theme is also 1200 pixels wide, so you may need to adjust the css for the image to display to the left, center, or right.
