Slow or Delay Connection Attempts

Is there a way to slow or delay connection attempts to a particular directory? Like, if a single IP has accessed the site 100 times in 5 minutes, the connections get delayed from thereout? The reason I ask, is for the second time in a month, we've gotten a friendly reminder from the engineers at IMH about excess usage. Both times it has been from a single IP address hammering a non'existent directory.

What are some things we can do to mitigate this? IP blocks are largely ineffective, as there are presumably many individuals/groups that would do such a thing.

Hello, Thank you for your question about being able slow or delay connection attempts. If you have a single IP address hitting a non-existent directory, you can easily Block the IP in your cPanel. It sounds like your website may be getting crawled bots. You can stop or delay specific bots from crawling your website using a robots.txt file. For example, if you do not have any customers from China, you can typically block the Baidu bot. Since baidu is a Chinese search engine. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, -John-Paul
