Connection to SMTP server smtp.comcast.net tmed out.

I use Thunderbird and get the message SMTP server smtp.comcast.net timed out. The last time I successfully sent a message was 5/22/14 - unable to since then. I've changed nothing. SMTP port setting is 465. I was on the phone to Comcast for 2 hours - no success. Also tried ports 524 and 587. Nothing. I can send using Comcast's email (I prefer Thunderbird). Can you help? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't have much information on how Comcast operates their email servers, but it does sound to me like your settings are correct. Unfortunately, the only individuals who will be able to give you completely accurate information would be Comcast.
