Are there any recommended port settings for incoming and outgoing pop3 mail? I am using 110 for incoming and either 587 for outgoing. Also, for my desktop (ISP = comcast), I use their SMTP server and set it at port 465.
Also, How do I decide whether I should be using the SSL settings instead of the standard settings?

110 and 587 are the normal settings for non-SSL POP and SMTP on our servers. If you want to use POP with SSL, you may use port 995 and for SMTP over SSL, you would use port 465.

Whether or not you want to use SSL is all up to you. Using SSL will protect you from man in the middle attacks as the messages are encrypted and without the SSL key, nobody would be able to read them while being sent.
