Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation

I just got a posting to a technical group that I've subscribed to for over 10 years rejected with:

554 "Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation."

This is embarrassing. You _must_ do more to check out your subscribers so the good guys don't get slammed like this. This will make it hard to do my business. Aren't you ashamed? What are you doing to fix this?

(I'm happy to forward the complete message set if you want).

Hello SteveC, I do apologize for the frustration with the email and do realize what a pain it can be. Another thought came to me about your situation. If you have not yet, you may want to set up spf records for your domain. This will help with reputation and can give some negative points in spam filter (that is good, lower is better). Also, to help you understand the bigger picture of how servers get blacklisted, I offer our article on the subject below: Why do emails get blacklisted? Best Regards, Scott M

Hello SteveC, Server reputation, specifically shared server reputation is in a constant flux. There are times when these servers get to the point of being bounced. Shared server IP reputation is a battle that is fought every day with all hosting companies. Our Systems team does work with the services and servers to keep it up and to fix whenever a server's IP is blacklisted. We have even recently implemented outbound spam filtering to help this exact issue. As reputations are evaluated over time, this new addition will take a slight bit of time to give the full results. In the meantime, we can take direct action for any emails that get the error you received. Please forward that message with the entire headers (body content not necessary) to our Live Support department at [email protected]. Be sure to validate your account with either the last 4 digits of the credit card on file, or the current Account Management Panel (AMP) password. Best Regards, Scott M
