Selling Domain name. What happens to add on domain?

I've sold my physical business and the website associated with it.  I also have an add on domain which I will keep. It's under the same c-panel account.  The business website and DNS is hosted by inmotion.  I don't know if the new owners will keep it going or shut it down until the transition is complete.  It will be up to them to move it if necessary.

The add on domain DNS is inmotion but it points my website hosted elsewhere.  Email is handled by inmotion.  My question is how to split the add on domain from the business domain so it can be transferred to the new owner?

The websites and domains were easy to setup for a non tech like me, but taking them apart without major damage is beyond me.

Thank you in advance,

Ernie

Hello Ernie,

Thank you for contacting us about an addon domain when selling a domain name. If you are transferring the whole cPanel to the new owner, you will need to get a separate hosting account for the addon domain, then migrate the site over to the new account. I recommend doing this before handing the cPanel account over, since they can rotate the passwords and lock you out from accessing the addon domain.

If your new account has WHM access, you can use the Convert Addon Domain tool there. You can also request a website transfer from AMP or reach out to our Live Support team for assistance with migrating your addon domain to another cPanel. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,
