Email deliverability from cgi

I am having trouble sending e-mail from my cgi scripts to an address outside of my domain.

My script can successfully send e-mails to [email protected], but not to [email protected].  I've tried several perl mail modules, thinking one of those might have been the problem.

On-line references say to check my mail log, but does not tell me where that log is kept. This page (https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/email/cpanel-logs-for-access-apache-email-error-ftp-mysql-whm/) indicates it is in /var/log, but when I access via a terminal, that directory is empty.

Some months ago, after discovering that e-mail was not being delivered, I was instructed to update my "Email deliverability" settings. Those settings are still set, and all show as valid.

How do I determine what the problem is?  Where would these errors be logged?

Just found that gmail was marking it as spam.  So wasn't the email deliverability settings supposed to fix that?

Hello and thanks for contacting us. Some of it can help. But we recommend following our full guide to block spam and keep your emails from being marked as such.
