Hello Church,

There are several ways that you can setup a development instance of your website.  It mainly depends on HOW you're building your website.  Are you using an application like WordPress?  Or was the site built from scratch?  If you used an application that was installed through Softaculous, then you have the option of creating a Staging site that you can use for development. If you're using program like WordPress, then you have an option to use a plugin to help you create a development site.  For example, you can use a backup plugin like Total Upkeep to transfer a site a different location and even use a different domain name.

The answer to your question depends on how your site is built and if you're using software that has the option for plugins, then you may want to see if you can find one to help you duplicate or backup your site to a separate location in order to work on it without disrupting your live site.  If you're not familiar with how your site is built, then I recommend speaking with a developer to determine how best to duplicate and then build your site in a development environment.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest Regards,
