How can I Point Multiple Domain Names to the same Website without Incurring a Duplicate Content Penalty?

I've built a WordPress website around a certain domain name here at InMotion -- let's call it example.com. Now, of course, I have changed my mind about the name of the website and want to change the domain name...without exporting the website. My idea is to purchase the new domain name (through InMotion) and then have it resolve to the existing website. Is this possible/advisable, and if so, what is the best way to accomplish this?

Hello Windleydaoust,

Thanks for the question in regards to pointing multiple domains without incurring a duplicate content penalty.  You can go into cPanel and use the Aliases option.  It will walk you through setting up a parked domain.  These domains will automatically switch to the same website with no duplicate content penalty (because the URL changes to the existing website).  You can't multiple URLs for the same content as that will generally generate a duplicate content issue.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest regards,

Arnel C.
