Question about Add-on or Subdomain

I am developing a site for a client that is already existing on another host. When complete we will point the nameservers to the development site. Is it better to create a subdomain or an add-on domain for the staging site? I want the easiest transfer possible. I will maintain their cpanel.

Hello Day50, Thanks for the question about setting up a development location for a WordPress site. If you're working on a different server and the eventual domain name is the same is already active on the internet, I would highly recommend using a hosts file modification. This will allow you to install your WordPress site on your development server using the same domain name. You won't be pointing the name servers yet, but the hosts file allows you designate a URL to point to your development server on computers where you are doing the development. The change applies to computers where the hosts file modification is made. This means that all development is made with the eventual domain name, and when you're ready to move the domain, you would simply change the name servers and remove the hosts file mod. Click on the provided link and you'll get the step-by-step guide on how to make the change. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know. Kindest regards, Arnel C.
