Why are you playing games with my account? why am I getting this error on registration Error 406 - Not Acceptable
Generally a 406 error is caused because a request has been blocked by Mod Security. If you believe that your request has been blocked by mistake please contact the web site owner.please when you change a setup on wp profile tell your customer what you've done.

406 errors when a website link is clicked on
I have a website visitor to who can visit a page directly, however when they click a link to enter a second page the site 406 errors. His desktop photo shows him on this page http://www.slrphotographyguide.com/camera/settings/ then he clicks any link and it errors. He says it happens no matter what page he starts with. He simply cannot click a link on my site without the error showing up. Any idea why this might be happening?

He emailed me this message:

"I can always bring up the first page I go to directly. But whenever I click any link on that page I get a 406 error message. At that time I cannot even get back to your page by going back in my browser (Chrome or ie) I checked at or about 6:05 pm EST on the 25 of February 2014. I have attached a screenshot of the actual error. "

Hello helpinghand,

Thank you for your question regarding 406 errors on your site. As a test, try disabling mod security rules from your cPanel to see if you still get the error.

If your problems persist, I recommend contacting Live Support at the time of the error, so they can see if there is specific mod security rule your site is triggering.

Also, here is a helpful link to our WordPress Troubleshooting guide which can often narrow down the specific cause of the issue.

Thank you,

John-Paul

It looks like you have resolved the issue, as I am not seeing any errors on the site when clicking various links. 406 errors are caused by insecurities within your code that are blocked by mod_security. You may disable mod_security using the Modsec Manager in cPanel if you believe it is in error, but I do recommed looking through your code to ensure that it is secure.

Hello bdonison, and thanks for your question. I see that your account last encountered a 406 error about 7 hours ago from looking at the Apache error log on the server. I also see that it does look like you do have mod_security currently disabled. Have you encountered this error again since following our guide on disabling mod_security via the cPanel Modsec Manager? It looks like the errors were coming from the /wp-admin/plugin-editor.php file. Also it doesn't appear that the domain you have setup with us is currently pointing at our server, and is still set to your previous host. I would recommend modifying your hosts file while testing on our server before updating your domain's name servers to point to us. You could possibly be having an issue when using the temporary URL due to it running under a different user than your account, that does still have mod_security enabled. Please let us know if you continue to experience these errors intermittently after accessing your domain directly instead of the temporary URL. - Jacob
