Account ownership transfer and security

Business behind the domain name is changing ownership. New owners want to know what are the options to keep hosting at InMotion and ensure security such that previous owners are not able to access the account or emails. Need a walkthrough of how this will need to happen step-by-step. Current Owners have account with InMotion with domain and emails. Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for the question about ownership transfer for an account. We often see this happen when an account owner walks away from an account or a business goes defunct and the individuals responsible for the website simply let it go without informing the host. The best way to handle it is to have the original owners contact InMotion Customer Service and then provide an explanation that they are transferring ownership to you. They can then change the names for the ownership of the account as well as the contact information. After the ownership information is changed, you can then login into the account and change the Account Management Panel (AMP) password. At that point, you should also change all of the billing information. You can also do this by calling into Customer service. If the original owner of the account is unwilling to talk with our Customer Service, then you can also initiate an ownership change by getting the account login information (and verification info), so that you can call in to have the information changed. Remember that websites primarily consist of two pieces - the domain name and the hosting account. The domain name may be registered with a different registrar. Make sure you also get the information for that domain if you need to use the same domain name. This will help you avoid issues with the domain name when it expires.

I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance.
