Need Assistance Getting Started/Which Platform to Use?

I signed up for hosting through InMotion a few days ago. I am attempting to create my own website, but it seems rather daunting, as I’m extremely new to web creation. I created a very basic “website” through WordPress a few years ago, but that’s it. Anyway, If I could get some ideas how to get started and what platform (i.e. which program to use) may be best for what type of site I am looking for?

I have a small side business of selling my original abstract paintings. I am looking for a site where I can showcase my pieces by downloading pictures of each painting and explaining a bit on each. I would like to be able to click on each painting to open a new page where I will have more pictures of that painting and be able to talk a little about each one. I will have only a few “tabs” such as “Paintings for Sale,” “Sold Paintings,” etc. I would like the site to be clean, simple, yet professional.

As I said, I am not in the website business, so it’s a bit overwhelming. I was wanting to attempt to create my own, but I may have to pay someone else to do it (I would rather spend my time painting than hours and hours creating a site). However, I would really like to be the one to create it, as I will have to update the site with new content regularly. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Hello Ryanhartnett, Thank you for your question about getting started with creating your website. We generally still encourage the use of open source solutions such as Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress. Our builder option has moved from the Premium Web Builder (by Plesk) to a plugin called BoldGrid that works through WordPress. BoldGrid is a great way to quickly create a site as provides a pre-built site that you merely need to modify to match your content needs. We encourage the use of WordPress as it is extremely flexible and millions of people use it making it very easy to find help with almost any type of problem that you might have. You mentioned what you wanted to do with your site, and this example from the WordPress.org Showcase is a perfect example of how to make something like what you described. There are also most likely plugins that match up to your needs as well and for the most part, it's free. If you want someone to create it for you can you can also employ our InMotion Web Design Team. I hope this helps to answer your questions. If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know. Regards, Arn
