I see that it can be installed for dedicated servers, but I'm confused why it's not available for the rest of us.

How would you rate the customer service you received?

Okay, thank you.

This is your emacs, page, BTW, which indicates that I can't install emacs on a shared server:
https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/server-usage/how-to-install-emacs
You might want to update that page.

...I'm assuming that you're telling me to install Emacs from source. (Although I thought I couldn't do that on a shared server.)

Oh maybe that's not what you're telling me? Maybe you're telling me that it's 'already there' if I ssh in, but that's not the case. E.g., I did ssh in (from a Mac) and typed 'which emacs'. Maybe my path needs updating? Or maybe you tried on a server that happened to already have emacs? I'm on ecbiz250.

If it is not available on your server, I recommend contacting our live technical support team for assistance. They can check your server or possibly move you to a server that does have it available.

Hello Clare,

Thanks for your question in regards to using Emacs.  You will need to log into SSH using a client like PuTTY in order to access Emacs.  I tested on a Business hosting account (shared server) and I was able to access Emacs with no issue.

emacs command line interface after successful login

If you are unable to access emacs through SSH, you will need to submit a ticket to our live technical support team to request access to the application on your server.  If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.
